Nestled in the heart of the Sacramento Valley, approximately 60 miles north of Sacramento and 100 miles northeast of the San Francisco Bay Area, Colusa is a vibrant community rich in history and tradition. As the county seat of Colusa County, our city offers a wonderful environment in which to live, work, and play. Colusa County is not only economically robust but also rich in historical significance. County government business is still conducted within our antebellum courthouse, built in 1861, which has operated continuously ever since. Our annual General Fund budget stands at approximately $28 million, with a total budget of about $78 million. The county's workforce comprises roughly 350 full-time equivalent positions across five represented bargaining units, ensuring efficient and effective public service. Beyond its economic and historical attributes, Colusa County is a haven for outdoor enthusiasts. The Sacramento River meanders through the county, complemented by five national protected areas including the Butte Sink Wildlife Refuge and the Mendocino National Forest. From hiking and bird watching to camping and world-class fishing, Colusa County offers a plethora of recreational opportunities, truly making it a sportsman’s paradise.
