About MiBroadband
MiBroadband was created on November 1, 2018, through a partnership of three local cooperatives: MiEnergy Cooperative, Mabel Cooperative Telephone Company, and Spring Grove Communications. Just as these cooperatives individually brought electricity and telephone service to rural areas decades ago, through MiBroadband they have launched the next stage of critical service by providing fixed wireless broadband to rural homes, farms and businesses in southeastern Minnesota and northeastern Iowa.
MiBroadband was created to provide broadband speeds to areas previously not served or underserved. These areas tend to be rural. The backbone for MiBroadbands fixed wireless broadband service is MiEnergy Cooperatives electric distribution communications network. As MiEnergy continues to build its private broadband network to communicate with its 43 substations and all residential and commercial electric meters, communications towers for MiBroadband will be added at the electric cooperatives substations to expand broadband service.
