The Spectrum Network (TSN) is a private, non-profit organization that provides customized employment services and daily living assistance to adults with disabilities, substance abuse, mental illness, and other barriers. We provide services to many men and women in two Iowa counties, assisting with developing skills and natural supports so that they can gain independence in their work and improve their quality of life.
The Spectrum Network is headquartered in Decorah, Iowa and has been helping people since 1974. Spectrum’s record of accreditation shows a history of dedication and commitment to supporting individuals with disabilities and other barriers.
Prevocational Training: This is an on-the-job training in manufacturing. We have several working contracts with various businesses, that provide practical work experience for those we serve. Through Prevocational Training we teach our clients work skills needed to sustain employment opportunities in the workplace, such as effective communication, task focus, boundaries, etc.
Supported Employment-Small Group (Enclave): We offer clients the opportunity to join a team, or "enclave," in an integrated setting that works alongside other employees at area businesses. The work environment provides practical experience in the community. We provide support for both the client and the employer while at the enclaves. TSN staff coach individuals and promote positive work practices and training while "on the job," to help ensure the work meets the employer’s expectations.
Community Employment: According to their needs, clients are guided through every step of finding and keeping a job by resume building, interest, skills assessment, job search assistance, interview coaching, and ongoing employment support. We also provide community work site assessments and job shadowing, which allow clients to observe or “try out” a job to make sure it’s the right fit.
Supported Community Living: Clients are assisted by staff with daily living skills such as bill paying, accessing community resources, cooking, cleaning, meal planning, and setting up a budget, which helps our clients build confidence and connection and maintain their independence in the community.
Day Habilitation: This program offers individuals the opportunity to make friends and discover new interests while participating in activities or community outings. Various outings include going to local shops, organizations, parks, and museums, as well as other public events, parades and community celebrations. Clients can also choose to join in various activities such as crafts and cooking, while staff work with clients to assist them with meeting their personalized goals.
