West Volusia Historical Society, Inc.

The West Volusia Historical Society, founded in 1973, is a 501(c)(3) not-for-profit, all-volunteer organization dedicated to researching, preserving, and sharing the rich history of West Volusia County. The Society manages The Henry A. DeLand House Museum and the Conrad Research Center, offering a comprehensive historical perspective of the City of DeLand. Additionally, the Society curates specialized exhibits in the DeLand Memorial Hospital and Veterans Museum, focusing on medical history and African American culture. For over four decades, the WVHS has been a cornerstone of the community, delivering high-quality educational programs, promoting local history research, and encouraging heritage preservation.

The role of the West Volusia Historical Society is vital to the community, as supporting history nurtures personal identity, teaches critical skills, stimulates economic development, fosters engaged citizens, and ensures the preservation of legacy. The Society’s dedication to these principles is reflected in its extensive programming and outreach efforts to both residents and visitors. It is important to note that while there are other historical organizations within DeLand, they operate independently and are not affiliated with the West Volusia Historical Society. Through its unwavering commitment, the WVHS continues to play an essential role in maintaining and celebrating the unique historical narrative of West Volusia County.
