"Get Your Smoke On"
Doc began to develop his passion for BBQ when he was young, watching his dad cook down in the hills of Tennessee. The passion continued to grow over the next 20+ years just smoking meat in the backyard. In his search for more information, he found the BBQ forums. One person that Doc met on a forum is Aaron Moore, fellow cook and competitor on the Big O’ Dang O’ BBQ team. When Aaron found out that Doc had not competed, he coaxed Doc into entering a local rib cook-off. That is when the worst thing happened…Doc took first place ribs! After the shock wore off, it was obvious that BBQ had crossed a new threshold, and the Richardson household would never be the same. Originally, the team consisted of the entire family, but for the last few years it has only been Doc and Susan. Together, they spent 2 years developing their own special blend of rubs and sauces. Words cannot explain the competition barbecue experience. Suffice it to say that it has been an amazing ride…honing the craft, meeting the best people, weathering tornados and storms, lending a helping hand, and getting a few accolades along the way. This passion for barbecue was fueled simply due to the coaxing of a well-intentioned friend and a first place trophy.
By the way… we are still on speaking terms with Aaron. If it weren’t for him, we would have never had the opportunity to experience the sweetness of a call or the overwhelming camaraderie of the BBQ community. Thanks, Aaron…we owe you!
