A BROTHER/SISTER PARTNERSHIP
By becoming part of the family at San Gabriel, residents continue their life’s journey in an environment that supports their continued health and well-being, as well as their experience of and enjoyment in life.
San Gabriel Memory Care is family-owned and operated. John Dietzen and Carrie Dietzen are a brother/sister team, raised in a large family and instilled with a spirit of service. They have extended their sense of family to their business, developing senior living communities with a heart.
Combined, the Dietzens have 20 years of experience in senior living. Their love of working with older adults through meaningful programs in a residential setting led them to break ground on San Gabriel Memory Care in Highland, IL, in 2014.
John and Carrie have named their business for the Archangel, Gabriel, whose message of hope is particularly relevant to those struggling with memory loss and their families: “Do not be afraid…for with God, nothing will be impossible.”
Many of these behaviors are reflected in the Alzheimer’s Association’s list of signs and symptoms below:**
Memory loss that disrupts daily life. (e.g., forgetting important dates,
asking for the same information over and over)
Challenges in planning or solving problems (e.g., following a familiar
recipe or keeping track of monthly bills)
Difficulty completing familiar tasks at home, at work or at leisure (e.g., trouble driving to a familiar location, managing a budget at work or remembering the rules of a favorite game)
Confusion with time or place
Trouble understanding visual images and spatial relationships (e.g., difficulty reading, judging distance and determining color or contrast)
New problems with words in speaking or writing
Misplacing things and losing the ability to retrace steps
Decreased or poor judgment
Withdrawal from work or social activities
Changes in mood and personality
SPECIALIZED SENIOR LIVING
MemoryCareBecause of the startling increase in diagnoses of Alzheimer’s and dementia in the aging population, many assisted living facilities now feature specialized memory care units. San Gabriel Memory Care is unique in that it provides all the benefits of assisted living and is solely dedicated to memory care. We work only with individuals suffering from Alzheimer’s or dementia.
At San Gabriel, our residents enjoy a bright and engaging environment featuring small neighborhoods and even smaller areas for activities. This model, known as “clustering,” limits group sizes to minimize distractions and commotion, while maximizing peace and calm.
Residents participate in days filled with activities and services delivered by staff members trained specifically in the care of memory-impaired adults. San Gabriel’s specialized care and dementia-friendly building design provide a quality choice for families looking for residency options for their loved ones with Alzheimer’s or dementia.
