About South Central Mental Health Counseling Center, Inc.
South Central Mental Health Counseling Center, Inc.
Established in 1962, South Central Mental Health Counseling Center, Inc. stands as one of Kansas' first Community Mental Health Centers (CMHC), initiated by a group of visionary citizens in Butler County. Acknowledging the critical intersection of psychological and physical health, the center aimed to provide localized care for individuals with severe mental illnesses, challenging the prevalent reliance on large psychiatric hospitals. Beginning in donated space at Susan B. Allen Hospital, the center quickly gained traction with popular educational groups, marking the start of a journey dedicated to dismantling mental health stigma.
Since its inception, South Central Mental Health has been a catalyst for change, contributing to the establishment of 26 CMHCs across Kansas. Committed to community service, the center collaborates with various social service organizations, aiming to foster healthy individuals and communities. Guided by a vision to provide exceptional care that makes a meaningful difference, and a mission to deliver quality mental health services empowering individuals, families, and communities, South Central Mental Health values Humility, Optimism, and a Strong Work Ethic. Joining forces with the center means contributing to the collective effort of shaping promising futures for all.
