About Us

Community 1st Credit Union is a Not-For-Profit financial cooperative that has been serving members for over 75 years. From a humble beginning we have grown to serve over 55,000 members with more than $500 million in assets and offices throughout Iowa. As a Not-For-Profit financial institution we give returns to our members in higher savings rates, better services, and lower borrowing rates.
Credit Unions build their capital base - which is a key indicator of soundness - through earnings. Unlike banks that can build capital through selling stock, a credit union can only improve its capital when income is greater than expenses. This is a different structure than you'll find in other financial institutions. Banks exist to make profits to pay their stockholders. Credit unions exist solely for the purpose of serving their members.
