Nancy Morrissey Retires from the Fairfield Area Chamber of Commerce
The time to retire comes for everyone and my retirement process and decision has been a very personal decision as well as a professional one.

Since 1993 I have been fortunate to play a part in the amazing growth and changes in the Fairfield area.  It has been gratifying to work closely with our Chamber members, business leaders, elected officials, and company leaders to transform a mid-sized Midwest city into a vibrant community with a great quality of life.

The Chamber unites hundreds of professionals, organizations, and educational institutions, which are committed to building a better community.  I believe the Chamber has never been healthier – we have an enthusiastically involved membership, good fiscal stability, a great office space, a dedicated board and an energetic competent staff- Lindsey Waugh- that I know will provide great continuity through this transition.  Only great things lay ahead.  New leadership will bring fresh eyes and new ideas to take the Chamber into the future.

Now personally, what will I miss the most…All of you, and the hundreds of people that I have worked and visited with over the last 23 years!

To me, life is all about personal relationships; the care and kindness shown to each other on a daily basis.  I’m not moving, but I will miss the day-to-day connections that I have with so many of you.  Not only are you my business associates, but more important, you are all my neighbors, my friends.

I will also miss the excitement, the energy and constant streams of new ideas and thinking that is a hallmark of the Fairfield Chamber and Fairfield.   One of the most rewarding things is the working partnerships that we have forged over the years with so many government and community organizations.  That is what the Chamber is about – partnering and promoting to enhance economic growth and quality of life for every member and citizen of the region.

I want to thank all of the current and past Chamber Board of Directors and Chamber Presidents, for all of their many years of dedication, their service to the Fairfield Chamber and for their inordinate amount of donated time and energy to the Chamber and Fairfield community, where they have all lived and worked. I could not have done this job without the unselfish dedication of our current and past Chairs and all of our Board members.

I want to thank my three wonderful daughters, Kelly Cecchini, Amy Cox and Katherine Breen, my three step-sons, Shawn, Daniel and James Morrissey [and yes, family members sang the Morrissey Bunch song when John and I married] and our 10 beautiful grandchildren.  They are what keeps my heart beating every day. They were always so very understanding of the long hours that I devoted to the Chamber.  There were so many of their school and sporting activities that I was not able to attend.  Someone once asked me why I work so many hours? My answer has always been an easy one. I work with volunteers every working day of my life.  I believe in the Fairfield Area Chamber of Commerce.  The many hours of overtime that I work is my way of volunteering my time, right along with them.  I will now have as much time as I want to be with my children and my grandchildren.  As you know and can tell- I am excited!!

I want to thank my husband, John, who has been totally supportive throughout my career at the Chamber. I would not be who I am today without his love and support. He is My Husband, My Best Friend, My Rock- he is the love of my life.  In our lives we can have friendship and we can have love, but when the two come together that’s what makes a Truly Great Love.  I thank God every day for bringing my husband, John, into my life.

The Chamber has enlarged and enriched our circle of friends.  It has been wonderful to call the Fairfield Chamber my home-away-from-home for over 23 years.  Not just the place, but more importantly the people. We intend to continue to reside right here in Fairfield; heck, John’s not even retiring, but we have to admit that our children and grandchildren are tugging on us to visit them.  So, I’ve cleaned my AGENDA, created a new one and already have some plans in place – Grandma visits – Sister Trips – Cruising with John – and John and I are in process of reorganizing the Bucket List!  Can you feel my anticipation?!!

From the bottom of my heart, thank you for your friendship, you are all such a blessing in my life.
