About Us
As a faith-based organization, it is the mission of Midwest Food Bank to share the love of Christ by alleviating hunger and malnutrition locally and throughout the world and providing disaster relief; all without discrimination. Our vision is to provide industry-leading food relief to those in need while feeding them spiritually. Beginning in 2003 on a farm in IL, with now 10 US and 2 international locations.
Midwest Food Bank Florida opened in 2014, with a warehouse in Lee County and mostly recently a food distribution site in Polk County. Currently the Florida division supports over 172 nonprofit partner agencies (churches, veteran supports, schools, shelters, mobile pantries, & soup kitchens) across 39 counties in Florida.
We rescue food from large, nationwide food distributors (Kellogg's, Tyson, Nestle etc) with overflow and transport it back to our Florida warehouses. Every Tuesday our partner agencies shop our warehouse for the food they need, 100% free to them, and free to the hungry communities they support. Thanks to our 850 volunteers and operational efficiencies we take $1 donation and turn it into $34 worth of food. We ensure 99% of all donations goes directly to our food relief programs, keeping admin expenses to less than 1%. In 2020, MFB Florida rescued and donated over $52 m dollars worth of food, donating that to 2.4million hungry individuals in Florida. With a focus on nutrition throughout our food relief programs, our goal is 30% of the food we donate is fresh produce, protein and dairy products.
Our mission efforts are dedicated to tackling hunger, & rebuilding a thriving community, executed with transparency & teamwork.
