Safety during the Holiday Season

We would like to remind everyone to be conscious of family members that might be susceptible to predators, whether they be through phone solicitations or someone they meet out shopping.  We have had calls at the chamber from members of our community that want to spread the word that not everyone is full of goodness and cheer at this time of year.

One call suggested that a large purchase was initiated and would be delivered shortly after verification of payment, and suggested the order had been forgotten.  Another call will try to suggest you have a problem with your social security number and it will be suspended.  There are many suggesting you have problems with an IRS issue.  The hardest to actually take the time to check on first is the one stating a family member is in crisis somewhere and needs immediate assistance.  They will also usually require you to purchase gift cards and have you call back with the numbers, and state contacting the individual will bring them danger or they can't talk.

This is a time for family, friends, nostalgia, and giving.  Please help make those you care about cautious to those out to hurt and not help!
