HSHS Southern Illinois Hospitals Stress Snow Shoveling Safety

Winter is here and snow has already covered many regions of the United States. With the approaching snow event expected for the southcentral Illinois area, HSHS St. Joseph’s Hospital Breese, HSHS Holy Family Hospital in Greenville and HSHS St. Joseph’s Hospital Highland recommend a few safety tips before you shovel snow to clear your sidewalks and driveways. 

According to the National Safety Council, snow shoveling is responsible for thousands of injuries and as many as 100 deaths each year nationwide.  Shoveling snow can be a strenuous activity, even for those who are physically fit. At colder temperatures, heart rate and blood pressure can increase, as well as the risk of exhaustion, dehydration, back injuries, and even heart attacks. 

Keeping your driveway and walkway clear of snow and ice is, in most cases, a necessity and will help prevent falls this winter.  Follow these snow-shoveling tips to help keep you safe this winter:  (continue reading)


Highland Arts Council Hosts
Fall in Love with ART

The Highland Arts Council presents Fall in LOVE with ART on Saturday, February 9, 2019 at the Lindendale Park Ballroom in Highland from 7 pm to 10 pm. The purpose of the event is fundraising for the programs supported by Highland Arts Council and the artwork that has been donated to the City of Highland.

The evening features several visual artists demonstrating throughout the evening, Michael Anderson painting the music of the SIUE Jazz Combo. Hors d’oeuvres, complimentary wine and a cash bar will be available as the Silent and Oral Auction presents art-related donations from regional artists, plus tickets to arts-related performances.

Tickets are $35 per person and can be purchased from any HAC member, by calling 618-558-0054, or by mailing your check to HAC, PO Box 33, Highland, IL 62249.


Highland Health Care Welcomes New Management

Highland Health Care is happy to invite you to an Open House on Friday, February 22, 2019 from 2:00 - 6:00 PM.  You can come tour the facility and meet their new upper management staff.  There will also be snacks and refreshments available.

Center for Cardiac Rehab & Wellness to Host Third Annual Heart Glo Bingo Event

 

In celebration of Heart Month, HSHS St. Joseph’s Hospital Highland and Center for Cardiac Rehab and Wellness will host their third annual Heart Glo Bingo event on February 15 at the Knights of Columbus Hall in Highland. Doors will open at 6 p.m., and Bingo will start at 7:00 p.m.

                                                     

This year’s Heart Glo Bingo event is sponsored by PrimeHealth sponsors are Poppy’s Inc. dba Widmer Floral, First Mid Bank, Highland Machine, Oberbeck Grain Co.
 

Heart Glo Bingo is free to attend and participants must be 18 or older.  Attendees are encouraged to bring their own heart-healthy snacks; there will be a prize for the table with the healthiest snacks. There will also be a cash bar and prizes. Please RSVP to (618) 651-2761 as seating is limited.


Bank of Hillsboro Hires New Highland Branch Manager

Bank of Hillsboro is pleased to announce Heather Jenny as the bank’s new Highland Branch Manager. Jenny comes to Bank of Hillsboro with over 14 years of banking experience and will oversee operations of Bank of Hillsboro’s Highland branch.
 

“Heather Jenny will be a wonderful addition to our Highland team,” Bank of Hillsboro VP Regional Manager Mike Ward said. “She understands our philosophy of community banking and as a Highland native, she is invested in supporting this community, both at the bank and through her volunteer work.”
