How to Get Your To-Do List Done When You’re Always in Meetings

Each morning, you emphatically write at the top of your to-do list, “Work on presentation!” Perhaps you even underline it a time or two for emphasis. But at the end of the day, your resolve has turned to dismay: yet again, you spent most of your time in meetings. And when you had a bit of time between them, you didn’t make any progress on your presentation.

But meetings keep interfering and your presentation languishes on your to-do list, weighing heavily on your mind until you can’t escape it any longer. In a flurry of activity, you work day and night to get it done. You meet the deadline, but...continue reading

HSHS St. Joseph’s Hospital Highland achieves five-star rating from Centers for Medicare & Medicaid Services

(Highland, IL) – HSHS St. Joseph’s Hospital Highland has received a five-star rating from the Centers for Medicare & Medicaid Services (CMS), the top score in the federal agency’s ratings system.
According to CMS, the overall rating summarizes quality measures, reflecting common conditions that hospitals treat, such as heart attacks or pneumonia. The overall rating shows how well each hospital performed, on average, compared to other hospitals in the country. HSHS St. Joseph’s Hospital Highland was one of twelve out of 185 hospitals in Illinois to receive five stars and one of two critical access hospitals to receive this recognition.
“We are very proud of our colleagues who work so hard to provide this level of care,” said John Ludwig, St. Joseph’s President and CEO. “This five-star rating from CMS validates our continuous commitment to top tier patient care, and I am confident we will continue to exceed our patients and their families’ expectations every day.”

News from Bradford National Bank

New Construction Underway at Mills Apple Farm

Mills Apple Farm has been a landmark between Marine and Grantfork since the 1970’s.  Generations of families have visited the farm in the fall to pick apples, pumpkins, take a wagon ride, and purchase one of their famous apple pies.
Always evolving, this family owned and operated business added pumpkins, cherries, blackberries, and even Christmas trees to go along with the 16 varieties of apples and 14 varieties of peaches available for purchase.  Additionally, they have a few animals for families to enjoy.  “One of the reasons I wanted to do this was to preserve the farm atmosphere.”
Operating a business of this magnitude is not without its ups and downs.  In May of 2014, their iconic red apple barn was destroyed by fire.  In it, they lost most of their equipment and stored goods.  Temporary quarters were put in place to service their customers the past few years.
Recently, however, travelers on Pocahontas Road between Marine and Grantfork may have noticed a huge new red building being erected.
