Government Affairs Report

The Illinois legislature is scheduled to return to town this week for week one of a two week fall veto session.  Typically, the fall veto session is a time for the legislature to take up action on bills that were passed during the spring and vetoed by the governor.  However, given the governor did not veto too many bills this summer, expect legislative action to fall outside of actions on vetoes.

Topics expected to be discussed:  Cannabis, Tax, Healthcare, Energy, Pensions, Employment Law, Infrastructure, and Flavored Tobacco Ban.

You can see the whole report here.

First Mid Bank & Trust

Annual Christmas Stocking Drive

First Mid Bank & Trust is having their annual Christmas stocking drive.  Stockings can be picked up at either Highland First Mid branch.  Fill the stocking with toys or goodies for a child 12 or under and return it to the bank by November 30th.  Stockings will be donated and distributed by Highland Area Christian Service Ministry.

If you need any other information, please give Becky Pollmann a call at 618-654-1111 option 1.

FCB Banks Coats for Cuties
Keeping Kids Warm DuringThe Winter.

[Swansea, IL  Oct. 2019]FCB BANKS is sponsoring its annual coat drive to collect clean, new or gently used warm coats from October 15 thru November 15 at any FCB Banks location in the Metro East and St. Louis area.  Customers and community residents are invited and encouraged to join FCB Banks in making a difference in our local communities by donating winter wear items – coats, hats, gloves and scarves -- to COATS FOR CUTIES.

FCB Banks is dedicated to supporting local communities with its Coats for Cuties campaign.  Every item collected will be distributed in our community to help kids in our neighborhoods stay warm.

Over the past several years, more than 5,000 coats have been collected and distributed across the FCB Banks service area to children and families in need.  FCB Banks employees, customers and neighbors who support Coats for Cuties make it possible for so many children to receive a warm coat for the winter.

HSHS St. Joseph’s Hospital Auxiliary Hosting a Used Book Sale

(HIGHLAND, IL) – HSHS St. Joseph’s Hospital Highland’s Auxiliary is hosting a Used Book Sale on Thursday, November 7 through Saturday, November 9 in the Ungacta Conference Center located at St. Joseph’s Hospital in Highland at 12866 Troxler Avenue. The times for each day’s sale are:

  • Thursday, November 7 – 1 to 4 p.m.
  • Friday, November 8 – 9 a.m. to 4 p.m.
  • Saturday, November 9 – 9 a.m. to noon

With free admission, St. Joseph’s Hospital Auxiliary offers you the opportunity to build your book inventory from recently released and long-ago published books. Novels in their second lives are every bit as fun to read as novels in their first, and cost less, too!

Among books for sale are recent releases in hardcover and an impressive selection of mysteries, cookbooks, crafts, non-fiction, children’s books and more. Also for sale will be puzzles, videos, DVD’s and CDs.

The St. Joseph’s Hospital Auxiliary is also accepting used book donations. Used book donations are accepted Monday through Friday from 9 a.m. to 3 p.m. in the hospital’s Gift Shop.

The St. Joseph’s Hospital Auxiliary has been fortunate to have the support from residents of local communities who donate their used books for the Auxiliary’s Used Book Sale. This is a very successful fundraiser for the Auxiliary and all used book donations are appreciated. For more information, please call 651-2592. All proceeds from the Auxiliary go directly to St. Joseph’s Hospital Highland.

For more information about the Auxiliary and membership, call Jan Korte-Couch, volunteer coordinator, at (618) 651-2593.
