PBJ
We are hopeful that the PBJ season won't be a complete wash. The first PBJ of the season is tenatively set for June 19th. Please understand that this is a fluid situation and may change.

VIRTUAL TOWNHALL

Please join the Chamber as we convene leaders from our municipality and hospital system to discuss the latest changes in the Governor's stay-at-home order, our hospital's role in responding to COVID-19 and other community concerns.

Our panelists will be answering questions from our audience. We will begin with questions that have been submitted via email prior to the town hall.  Participants will also be able to submit questions during the evening through the chat box. We will work through as many questions as we can within the hour.

Questions submitted ahead of time will be asked anonymously. We encourage you to submit your questions ahead of time to nancie@highlandillinois.com, and to join us on Tuesday, May 5th from 7-8pm.

Plans for Safe Re-Opening

I know providing a safe environment for your employees and customers is top priority once re-opening is permitted.

Madison County Board Chairman Kurt Prenzler is asking COVID-19-impacted businesses to share with him via email their plans for safe re-opening. Details might include enhanced sanitizing processes, reconfigured use of space to allow for greater social distancing, and anything else that demonstrates your foresight and proactive approach.

If you are so inclined, please send your safe re-opening plans, or any questions you may have, to Chairman Prenzler (kprenzler@charter.net).

I appreciate you, and the Highland Chamber team is here to help.

New Article

Thomas Walstrum, who is an economist at the Federal Reserve Bank of Chicago, has created a survey on the impact of COVID-19. The goal of the Chicago Fed is to produce a report in the next few weeks that covers the five states in the Seventh Federal Reserve District (IL, IN, IA, MI, and WI). Since Illinois is at the heart of this region, they would very much appreciate your participation.

If you are interested and can complete the survey, they would appreciate it. Here is the survey link: https://frb.co1.qualtrics.com/jfe/form/SV_06CpP9Z69HLh7XT

Don’t Delay Emergency Care

Heart attacks, strokes, accidents and injuries: These are just a few examples of medical emergencies that can occur at any time, in any place and to any one – even in the midst of the COVID-19 pandemic.

HSHS St. Joseph’s Hospital in Highland reminds all area communities it is open and available to provide all types of emergency medical care, 24/7, regardless of the current public health crisis.

recent report from the American College of Emergency Physicians states some emergency departments across the country are seeing a reduction in patient volumes, as well as patients delaying seeking medical care for non-COVID-19 related emergencies – potentially due to patients being concerned about contracting COVID-19 during a hospital visit or overwhelming health care workers.

“Time is of the essence in emergent health issues like heart attacks and strokes, so it is critical that our area residents do not delay seeking medical care for any emergency, even though we are in the midst of this COVID-19 pandemic,” says Dr. Delwin Merchant, emergency medicine physician and medical director of St. Joseph’s emergency department. “We want to assure our community that our hospital has essential protocols in place to keep our patients safe from the spread of infectious diseases, and we are here and ready to care for you.”

The following are some examples of symptoms/incidents in which a trip to the emergency department or call to 911 would be necessary:

·        Difficulty breathing, shortness of breath
·        Chest or upper abdominal pain or pressure
·        Severe abdominal pain
·        Bleeding that will not stop
·        Fainting, sudden dizziness, weakness
·        Sudden changes in vision
·        Sudden confusion
·        Injury due to accident, burns or smoke inhalation, near drowning, deep or large wounds or other serious injuries
·        Choking
·        Difficulty speaking
·        Coughing or vomiting blood
·        Head or spine injury
