"COVID Tax Tip 2020-63" from the IRS

Employers can grant paid leave for COVID-19

COVID Tax Tip 2020-63 , May 28, 2020

Under the Families First Coronavirus Response Act, employers can grant paid leave for an employee to take care of their health needs related to COVID -19 or to care for their family members. This relief helps ensure employees are not forced to choose between being paid or staying home to care for themselves, a child or other family member.

In addition to the relief for employees, businesses can claim two new refundable payroll tax credits for granting paid leave to their employees. The paid sick leave credit and paid family leave credit are available for eligible employers who pay qualified sick leave wages and/or qualified family leave wages from April 1, 2020 through December 31, 2020, and who have fewer than 500 employees.

The paid sick leave credit and the paid family leave credit will immediately and fully reimburse employers for the cost of providing COVID-19 related leave to their employees.

Here is what employees need to know about paid leave under the CARES Act...

Forgiveness Requirements Relaxed with Passage of Paycheck Protection Program Flexibility Act

Contributed by Rebecca Dobbs Bush

On June 5, 2020, President Trump signed the Paycheck Protection Program Flexibility Act. Notable changes will allow businesses more time to spend loan proceeds on permitted costs. This is significant relief for those businesses that were unable to continue operations and bring employees back to work.  With many of those employees being lower paid, paying them to stay at home was not well received as it interfered with the higher amounts of unemployment compensation they could otherwise receive.

The significant changes allowed by the PPP Flexibility Act are... continue reading.

Heart & Soul Yoga by Sharon Open In Studio & Keep Virtual Classes

Sharon Schmitz opened her studio up for in-person Yoga classes this past weekend. "I am so glad to be open for in-studio classes for those that wish to come in.  I'm also thrilled to be able to continue Zoom classes for those that wish to continue practicing at home!", said Schmitz.

A few updates on classes:
1.  A GENTLE class was added on Monday mornings from 9:00-10:00 am.  This will be available through Zoom as well.  Check the website or the private Facebook page for the class code or register and BOOK the class via the momoyoga website .  This will be a "drop-in" only class for now at $10 per class (June 8, 15 and 22)
2.  A PARK yoga class on Wednesday mornings from 6:00-7:00 am has been added as well.  This will be available at Silver Lake Park at the Large Pavilion.  For now this will NOT be a Zoom class, strictly an in person class, but it will be outdoors!  Heart & Soul Yoga by Sharon can accomodate up to 9 people in the class, so if you are interested, sign up through the momoyoga website!
3.  All classes will continue in-studio (with the exception of the Park Yoga classes that will be at Silver Lake Park) and will continue to be videoed during the in-studio classes for the Zoom classes (except the Wednesday Park class).  Please know if you come for an in-studio class, that there WILL be a camera JUST ON Sharon to video for Zoom.
4.  YOU MUST BOOK A CLASS TO ATTEND IN-STUDIO CLASSES using the momoyoga website!  This is a requirement!  You DO NOT have to pay online...there is an option to pay in the studio when you come!

"I hope you are able to continue with your yoga practice either via in-studio or through Zoom.
It is my wish to allow you to practice yoga, build your immune system through the practice of yoga, allow your body to breathe, stretch and find some relaxation!" said Schmitz.

In a show of support to locally owned and operated restaurants, Bradford National Bank gave away over $4,000 in gift cards so consumers would continue to patronize business locally.  In recent weeks, the bank processed over 225 applications for the Payroll Protection Program to assist small business with meeting payroll.

Bradford National Bank president Michael Ennen said, “We are happy about our partnership with the Federal Home Loan Bank of Chicago.  With their $20,000 grant, we will be able to assist several important organizations in the communities we serve.”  In addition to the grant funds, Bradford National Bank committed an additional $10,000 to the local program.
