HSHS St. Joseph's Hospital Offers Halloween Safety Tips
PRESS RELEASE
Tips for a Safe Halloween
HIGHLAND— Halloween is an exciting time of year for children, as they dress up in creative costumes, carve up pumpkins and gather lots of sweets. But while it can be an enjoyable experience, it isn’t without its preventable, safety risks. HSHS St. Joseph’s Hospital Highland and HSHS Medical Group encourage parents to become familiar with basic safety tips to make sure their kids stay safe on Halloween.
“While Halloween safety tips often focus on the danger of candy to children, the most significant risk to young trick-or-treaters now comes from traffic,” noted Dr. Robert Schaefer, HSHS Medical Group family medicine physician. “Parents should check all candy for potential food allergies or choking risks, and they should ration their children's candy so it isn’t consumed all in one night.”

PRESS RELEASE
Getting your first mammogram?
Read these suggestions first:
HIGHLAND— Getting a mammogram might seem intimidating for those who have never gotten one before. If it's new to you, you might be going to an unfamiliar facility, and everyone seems to have their own story about their experience. However, mammograms are key to an early breast cancer diagnosis. These x-rays can detect breast cancer even before a lump can be felt.
HSHS St. Joseph’s Hospital Highland’s Surgical Services and Radiology Director Megan Espenschied, RN, MSN, shared, “It takes very little time to get a mammogram, and the peace of mind it can give you is worth it. Despite the challenges that busy lives can bring, we urge all women to take care of themselves and have their annual mammogram.”
Make the most of your mammogram with these tips.
