B2B Grants for Restaurants, Hotels and

HOTEL
RESTAURANT
CREATIVE ARTS BUSINESSES

Governor JB Pritzker and the Illinois Department of Commerce and Economic Opportunity (DCEO) today announced $175 million in available grant funding through the Back to Business (B2B) program. Following state recovery for businesses totaling nearly $1.5 billion, the latest American Rescue Plan Act (ARPA) -funded opportunity is designed to provide additional support for the hardest-hit sectors, including restaurants (B2B Restaurants), hotels (B2B Hotels), and businesses or organizations in the creative arts sector (B2B Arts). To provide hands-on support and raise awareness about the program, the State has mobilized a network of more than 100 community navigators across Illinois.

As outlined in statute, B2B Arts and B2B Restaurants grant award amounts will be determined by revenue declines, as reflected on tax returns, and funding for hotels will be allocated by number of rooms. Applications are open from April 5 through May 10, 2023 and awards are expected to be made several weeks after the deadline date. All eligible applicants will receive a grant as long as the business meets eligibility requirements and submits proper documentation and attestations.

HHS Post Prom Committee Seeks Donations

Dear Businesses:
For more than twenty years, Highland parents have organized a Post Prom event held at the Highland High School gymnasium. Post Prom is designed to provide a safe, alcohol and drug free event for students. Post Prom is not a school sponsored event, rather it is organized and planned by Junior and Senior students and their parents. Post Prom is open to all Juniors and Seniors and their guests, even if they do not attend Prom.
Post Prom will be held Saturday, April 22, 2023. Food, refreshments and activities such as: Mechanical Bull, Gladiator Joust, John Deer Tractors, Cornhole Toss, and more keep the students busy throughout the night. Attendance and cash prize drawings are also awarded at the conclusion of the event as an incentive for student participation. Post Prom has always been generously funded from donations received by local businesses, community organizations and parents. We are asking for your support for the continued success of this event.

Program to be presented at Louis Latzer Memorial Public Library
April 25 at 6:30 p.m.
Gregor Saladin was born in 1956 and grew up - like Emil Frey - in Arlesheim. As the father of two grown-up sons, he lives in Bern, the capital of Switzerland. Saladin studied philosophy and German language and literature in Basel. He spent the first half of his working life as a journalist and the second half in communications for the Swiss Federal Administration. Since his retirement two years ago, he has been active in publishing. His main interest is in historical issues.  In November 2022, he published a biography on the occasion of the 100th anniversary of Emil Frey's death.

Emil Frey spent decisive years of his life in Highland and fought in the American Civil War as a volunteer in the Illinois Infantry. After returning to Switzerland, he had a steep career in society, politics, and the military: from 1882 to 1888 he was Switzerland's ambassador to the United States, from 1891 to 1897 he was a member of the Swiss government, and in 1894 he was president of the Swiss Confederation.

Gregor Saladin also conducted research for the biography in the Louis Latzer Memorial Library. He looks forward to presenting some highlights of Emil Frey's life in Highland - his second home.

Hillary McLaughlin to Speak at Cinema Con

PRESS RELEASE
Lory Theater owner set to speak at National Association of
Theater Owners convention: Cinema Con.
Hillary McLaughlin, along with her husband Justin, has owned and operated The Lory Theater since December 26th 2012. In the pre-pandemic first eight years, her leadership took the Lory from condemnable building to one of the highest grossing “twins” (a theater with only two screens) in the country. Once the forced covid closures hit, it was her leadership and creativity that saved the theater once again, turning the lobby into a temporary kitchen where they made and served frozen custard out the front door. The front of the main auditorium was turned into yet another kitchen where she figured out how to make gourmet popcorn flavors such as caramel and cheddar. When the movies came back eighteen months later, Hillary took both of those concepts and moved them to a full second company: a family entertainment center called Mac’s Family Fun Time.
