Jennie Latzer Kaeser Children's Library to celebrate the 150th Kentucky Derby

And They're Off! to the Kentucky Derby for Kids

On Saturday, May 4, 2024, join us at Jennie Latzer Kaeser Children's Library to celebrate the 150th Kentucky Derby from 10 a.m.-1 p.m. The children (ages 2-10) will be "racing" kid friendly balloon horses, making a cute horse face using stickers, creating scratch art Kentucky Derby style, and sipping juice pouches.  This is a free, family friendly event to enjoy with your kids.  The races will be held outdoors with weather permitting.  These crafts will be offered while our supplies last.  Wearing a Kentucky derby hat is optional.  A photo booth will be set up inside for everyone to enjoy.  Race on over to the Children's Library!

IFBW Hosts Reality Store!

The IFBW are once again hosting the Reality Store at the Highland Middle School the morning of Friday, May 10th and they need VOLUNTEERS!
Reality Store is a life-skills program that is offered to the 8th graders at HMS. The students have been advised to pretend they are 25, they have chosen an occupation and will receive a months paycheck to use during the program. The students have to maneuver through the stations to pay school loans off , buy or rent a home/place to live. They purchase insurance, pay for utilities, groceries, clothing and child care and buy a vehicle.  It's quite interesting of how eye opening this experience is for them!
This program began in 1995 and has become a very successful program.  Hope you consider volunteering for this worth-while experience at HMS.

ONE on WON Program Update!

ONE on WON
*Update: Jeff currently has 21 members signed up
for the program ..... Thank you Jeff!!
Feedback has been VERY positive and the program is expected to grow even more! See below to get signed up!

We are excited to kick off our ONE on WON program! This program was created to culminate relationships with other like-minded businesspeople or members from groups or organizations that may find it difficult or intimidating in a group setting. Jeff Weinacht from Pulse Personal Training will be collecting a list of business professionals who are interested in getting together one on one to meet and get to know each other on a personal and professional level. The idea behind the meetings is not to “sell” each other’s products or services, but simply to network in an atmosphere that allows for conversations with minimal distractions, as well as an opportunity to get to know one another.  The Highland Community is growing quickly and has a wide range of new businesses that have opened in the last year. This is a great opportunity to build relationships with people who can share experiences and work together as opportunities arise!  While the Highland Chamber of Commerce Business After Hours is our greatest opportunity to network on a regular basis, ONE on WON is a way for individuals to network in a more intimate setting and build meaningful, professional relationships!
We will have a sign up sheet at our Business After Hours or
you can contact Jeff anytime at 618-792-8250

Stewards of Hope Needs Your Help!

Stewards of Hope International of Highland
needs your help in finding a new home!
The group is needing to move
out of their current location and is looking for something in the Highland area that would fit their needs for storing, packaging and shipping items donated to them.
The ideal location would have the following:
 Minimum of 600ft
Exterior door at least 6ft wide
Overhead door with an 8ft clearance
 Temperature controlled for food storage
  24/7 Access

Capability to back up a truck to the access door to load and
unload the boxes we send.

Optimally, the space would have access to a platform for loading pallets onto a commercial truck for shipment to FL
(helpful but not a deal breaker)
If you or someone you know may be able to accommodate the Stewards of Hope of Highland, please contact Michele Korte Capelle at mcapelle@stewardsofhope.org or 618-304-9940
