Stay Alert | Tips for Preventing Check Fraud

According to the American Association of Bankers, there were approximately 97,000 claims of potential check fraud in 2014. By 2022, that number had risen to more than 680,000. Busey is committed to working in partnership with our customers to provide insightful information to help reduce your potential exposure to fraud.

One of the easiest ways to protect your accounts is to avoid mailing checks, which can be done by utilizing Busey’s various secure and convenient digital payments options—such as Bill Pay and Zelle®. However, if you prefer to send a personal check or are unable to pay online, keep the following tips in mind:
  • Use a gel pen to write checks.
  • Use plain white envelopes to mail checks and avoid provided return
    envelopes with company names.
  • Use the letter slots inside the Post Office or hand deliver it to a letter carrier.
  • Monitor bank transactions online daily and review statements.
If you believe you’ve been the victim of fraud or a scam on a Busey account, contact our Customer Care team, reach out to your Relationship Manager or visit your local Service Center to place a fraud alert on your account. Additional information and resources can be found in our Fraud Prevention FAQs.

BNB Shred Event

Bradford National Bank to Host Fall Shredding Day in Highland

Bradford National Bank will be hosting a free secure shredding and recycling day. On Saturday, May 25th, from 9-11am, the shred truck will be at Bradford National Bank, located at 1100 Mercantile Drive in Highland.

Bradford National Bank is providing this service at no charge to the community.

Many items can be recycled; however, Bradford National Bank recommends the secure destruction of old financial documents such as cancelled checks, bank statements, tax files, paid bills, and investment statements.

Please note: Metal, including clips and binders, as well as plastics and computer disks and CDs must be removed from the materials.

Randy Alderman, Bradford National Bank Security Officer, said, “We have been doing these events twice each year for the past 14 years, and have securely destroyed tons and tons of old financial documents. People really do understand the importance of securely destroying their old financial records.”  He added, “We are pleased to provide this important service to the community at no charge.”

Delivery of items can be contactless as well. Shred workers can remove the boxes and bags from the back seat, trunk, hatch, or bed of a truck. Users of this service do not even have to get out of their car. Items received will be shredded on-site by a licensed and bonded service provided by the bank.

If you have any questions or require more information, call 618-664-2200 or visit Bradford National Bank online at www.bradfordbank.com.

Stewards of Hope Needs Your Help!

Stewards of Hope International of Highland
needs your help in finding a new home!
The group is needing to move
out of their current location and is looking for something in the Highland area that would fit their needs for storing, packaging and shipping items donated to them.
The ideal location would have the following:
 Minimum of 600ft
Exterior door at least 6ft wide
Overhead door with an 8ft clearance
 Temperature controlled for food storage
  24/7 Access

Capability to back up a truck to the access door to load and
unload the boxes we send.

Optimally, the space would have access to a platform for loading pallets onto a commercial truck for shipment to FL
(helpful but not a deal breaker)
If you or someone you know may be able to accommodate the Stewards of Hope of Highland, please contact Michele Korte Capelle at mcapelle@stewardsofhope.org or 618-304-9940

ONE on WON Program Update!

ONE on WON
*Update: Jeff currently has 21 members signed up
for the program ..... Thank you Jeff!!
Feedback has been VERY positive and the program is expected to grow even more! See below to get signed up!

We are excited to kick off our ONE on WON program! This program was created to culminate relationships with other like-minded businesspeople or members from groups or organizations that may find it difficult or intimidating in a group setting. Jeff Weinacht from Pulse Personal Training will be collecting a list of business professionals who are interested in getting together one on one to meet and get to know each other on a personal and professional level. The idea behind the meetings is not to “sell” each other’s products or services, but simply to network in an atmosphere that allows for conversations with minimal distractions, as well as an opportunity to get to know one another.  The Highland Community is growing quickly and has a wide range of new businesses that have opened in the last year. This is a great opportunity to build relationships with people who can share experiences and work together as opportunities arise!  While the Highland Chamber of Commerce Business After Hours is our greatest opportunity to network on a regular basis, ONE on WON is a way for individuals to network in a more intimate setting and build meaningful, professional relationships!
We will have a sign up sheet at our Business After Hours or
you can contact Jeff anytime at 618-792-8250
