About Us About Us

Panhandle Health District provides over 40 different public health programs to families, individuals, and organizations in northern Idaho. We exist to promote healthy lifestyles and help prevent disease while protecting the local environment that supports us all. From clinical services to programs ranging from food and drinking water safety to health education and disease control, public health services are designed to ensure our community is a safe and healthy place to live, work and thrive.

The Panhandle Health Department (Ph.D.) has achieved national accreditation through the Public Health Accreditation Board (PHAB). The national public health accreditation program works to improve and protect the health of the public by advancing the quality and performance of the nations state, local, tribal, and territorial public health departments.

To receive accreditation, a health department must undergo a multi-faceted, peer-reviewed assessment process to ensure it meets or exceeds a set of quality standards and measures established by the PHAB. The standards measure the ability of a health department to prevent disease and injury, prepare for and respond to public health emergencies, and promote healthy behaviors in its community, among other services.
