About The Threatte Center
The Threatte Center
The Jim & Mary Threatte Arts & Civic Center is known best as just "The Threatte Center."
The Oaklawn Civic Center Foundation saved the county's only building listed on the National Historic Registry. In 1902 a 9,000 square foot building was built to house a gym, auditorium and classrooms for the Oaklawn Baptist Academy and in later years for the Lanier County school system. In 2006 after the school building had been abandoned for years as a school, the Oaklawn Foundation received a donation of the building and had it moved (in four giant pieces) through downtown Lakeland on a Sunday in April.
After a total restoration and updating, The Threatte Center is a now a arts and civic center for the citizens of Lanier County and South Georgia.
