About Marin Sanitary Service
Marin Sanitary Service
Founded in 1948 by the Garbarino, Segale, Zappetini, Marconi, and Zanotti families, Marin Sanitary Service (MSS) has been at the forefront of the waste management and recycling movement. Originating from the innovative efforts of Joe Garbarino's father and uncle in 1920, who formed the first Scavengers Protective Association, MSS has evolved into a cornerstone of Marin County's sustainability initiatives. The Garbarino family, now in its third generation, has played a pivotal role in shaping the county's recycling landscape, garnering recognition from the California Integrated Waste Management Board.
Committed to reducing, reusing, and recycling, MSS has expanded into three distinct divisions: Marin Sanitary Service (MSS), offering weekly waste collection and recycling services; Marin Recycling Center (MRC), processing recyclables and providing community education; and Marin Resource Recovery Center (MRRC), handling non-hazardous materials. With a vision for zero waste, MSS continues to grow philosophically with its customers, fostering a sustainable future for Marin County and earning community accolades along the way.
Marin Sanitary Service's legacy spans three generations of the Garbarino family, with roots dating back to the early 20th century. As a testament to their pioneering spirit, MSS has become synonymous with recycling innovation. Today, serving over 33,000 residential and commercial accounts, MSS operates with a comprehensive approach, encompassing waste collection, recycling, and education services. The company's commitment to sustainability is embodied in its three divisions, addressing various aspects of waste management, from recycling centers to hazardous waste facilities. Grateful for the community's support, MSS invites everyone to explore their awards page and join them at community events as they collectively strive for a greener, more environmentally conscious Marin County.
