Best of the Road Small Town Contest

Mandy Gauldin

Good afternoon,
Rand McNally and USA Today have teamed up with a “Best of the Road” contest to find the best small towns in America. I uploaded 20 photos and voted Leadville as “Most Beautiful.” It would be great to have more photos, but most importantly, lots and lots of votes!

Please help me spread the word. Voting ends May 30. Here’s the link: http://www.bestoftheroad.com/town.do?destinationId=12270

Thanks for your help!

SH 91, Copper Mountain to Leadville

CDOT

The Colorado Department of Transportation (CDOT) will be rotomilling and paving State Highway 91 between Copper Mountain and Leadville this summer.
Work will begin June 1st, at the earliest, north of Leadville between mileposts 0 and 12. This work, which will be completed in October 2011, will involve single-lane, alternating traffic Monday through Thursday, from 7 AM to 7 PM, and on Fridays from 7 AM to noon. Travel delays may be up to 15 minutes, depending upon traffic volumes. Further information, including a start date, will be posted later this month.
The work on the north side of Fremont Pass is expected to begin in early July, following the Independence Day weekend, and continue through November 2011. Work hours are tentative at this point but drivers should anticipate traffic stops up to 20 minutes during daylight hours, Monday through Thursday, and until 2 p.m. on Fridays. Improvements include widening the shoulders at various locations between Copper Mountain and the top of Fremont Pass (Climax).
CDOT will maintain a flexible work schedule, as necessary, to accommodate the various recreational events that take place in Summit and Lake counties during the summer.

Volunteer Training Party!

Heather Scanlon

Volunteers Needed at the Chamber of Commerce!

The Leadville/Lake County Chamber of Commerce is presently seeking volunteers to help out at the Visitor’s Center. The summer season is upon us and the Visitor’s Center needs several friendly locals to help take good care of our guests from out-of-town. Familiarity with the general geography and history of Leadville/Lake County and the desire to help out in your community are the only requirements necessary to volunteer.

There will be a volunteer training party for interested volunteers on Tuesday May 31st, 2011. This training party will be held at the Chamber of Commerce, 809 Harrison Ave. from 5:30 pm to 7 pm.

Please stop by the Visitor’s Center or contact us at 486-3900 if you’re interested in becoming a volunteer and plan on attending the volunteer training party so we can have enough food. We would love to hear from you.

CMC-Timberline Welcome Campaign

Judy Green

This year, for the first time, CMC is having an “early orientation” on June 15 and 16 for new CMC students and their families. In order to encourage them to come into your place of business, the college has recently completed the attached 4 versions, which we will print on card stock and you may use as window signs.

If you plan to display the sign, please let me know which version you would like: Activity, Dining, Historical or Shopping. In addition, there is a mini logo that you may want to start dropping into your print ads or other print materials.

Please put the window cards where appropriate prior to the June 15 arrival, but we would like you to leave them up indefinitely, or as long as you plan to offer something special to CMC students and families. It could be something as simple as a coupon for money off a future purchase, or an on-the-spot discount. Or a “Starving Student Special Section” stocked with clearance items.

CMC will put miniature versions of the 4 signs and mini logo in the packets to students attending Early Orientation, in order to make them aware of the campaign, and so they will look for the window cards when they are out and about.

Please RVSP with the version you want, and how many, and we will get them printed and out to you prior to June 15. “
