Director's Corner

Hello Members,
First and foremost, as Director of the Chamber, I would like to wish everyone a safe and wonderful Thanksgiving Holiday.  I hope that everyone has a lot to be thankful for, and please consider some act of kindness this holiday season toward someone (or many someones) who may not be as fortunate as yourself.  As Rachel's Challenge highighted, this spirit of kindness can and should be cantagious and will spread.

The Chamber is again proud to be a part of putting together holiday events that will highlight Leadville and Lake County.  Please encourage friends, family members, and out-of-towners to enjoy what there is to offer here as part of this holiday season.  Both the Lighting of the City and County Lights on 11/29 and the Parade of Lights on 12/7 should be events that attract people to downtown Leadville and the County as a whole.

I would like to thank sponsors for this event as well as others who are helping to make these holiday events happen...  Alco, the City of Leadville, Curt Cooper, Max Duarte, Encore Home & Applance, the Herald Democrat, Lake County, the Leadville Lions, LeadvilleToday.com, Peoples Bank, Dean Routh, and Safeway.

Thank you for being a member of the Chamber of Commerce and for purchasing the local products and services of your fellow Chamber members.  Remember, SHOP LOCAL! during this holiday season whenever you possibly can.
Jeff McGuinness
Director

Leadville and Lake County will Light the Holiday Lights this Friday!

Come one, come all to witness the City and County buildings, as well as many Harrison Ave windows, get lit up this Friday, November 29th at 5:30pm.

The City of Leadville and Lake County will simultaneously light their holiday displays this Friday evening and businesses who have decorated will also be asked to 'throw the switch' around this time to kick off the holiday season.  Any businesses along Harrison Avenue who have the ability are also being asked to stay open until 7pm this Friday for local and visiting Black Friday shoppers.

Also this evening, the City of Leadville is planning a reception at City Hall beginning at 5:30pm.  There will be cookies and hot chocolate and the City building will be abundantly decorated for the season.  They have also re-done some of the City's historical dislays inside the building and the public is invited to stop by and check them out.

Please consider stopping by some of our local businesses this Friday to SHOP LOCAL and help keep our Lake County business community strong.

...and don't forget the holiday Parade of Lights on Saturday, December 7th!

...and who is that I hear up on the rooftop?  Bring your family, friends, and children to see Santa and Mrs. Claus roll into town with the Leadville Parade of Lights on Saturday, December 7th beginning at 5:30pm on Harrison Avenue in downtown Leadville.

Last year's Parade of Lights was great with 22 lighted floats and vehicles, and a bundle of welcome snowfall, and we are hoping for even greater success this year.  For a great look at last year's Parade, and to get everyone excited for this year's, Kathy Bedell of LeadvilleToday.com did an awesome job assembling a video that has been posted on YouTube of the 2012 parade.  A big Thank You to Kathy!  Here is a link to that video...

Beginning at 5:30pm, the Parade of Lights will start down Harrison Avenue at 9th Street and continue to 3rd Street.  We plan to have even more entrants than last year and we are hoping the early season snowfall continues to make this a great evening.  After the parade Mr. and Mrs. Santa Claus will be taking requests from children at the Courthouse and cookies and hot chocolate will be available on the Courthouse lawn.  There will also be Christmas Karaoke provided by Curt Cooper (a big Thank You to Curt as well!) and the singing of carols in front of the Courthouse.

There is still time to Enter the Parade!  Entry forms are available at the Visitor Center at 809 Harrison Avenue, or you can download them from the home page of the Chamber's website, www.leadvilleusa.com .

So please plan on coming downtown to the Parade of Lights on December 7th!

...and don't forget the Business and Residential Holiday Lighting Contests!

Finally, don't let all that hard work and balancing on ladders and high electric bills go to waste!  Consider placing your business or house on our holiday map of the 'best dressed' properties in Leadville.  Whether you want to be a part of the contest or simply create a wider audience for your holiday decorations (as if having enough mini-lights to be seen from space was not enough) please consider filling out one of these forms and let it be known that your location is decked out for the holidays.

As part of this Business Holiday Lighting Contest and Residential Holiday Lighting Contest, maps of decorated locations throughout Lake County will be available in both the Herald Democrat and on LeadvilleToday.com after the registration deadline.  So impress Leadville and Lake County with your holiday decorating skills and entertain the 'light-peepers' around town who want to take a look at and appreciate your holiday handiwork.  Entry forms for both the Business and Residential lighting contests are also available at the visitor center or on the Chamber's website.

Make the holidays in Leadville this year bright!  Join in with your fellow community members and decorate and celebrate as we enjoy the holidays and encourage visitors to come to our fine Victorian town and celebrate with us.
