Dear Pleasant Grove – Lindon Chamber Members,
We know that many of you are worried about, and the impact of the coronavirus disease (COVID-19). This is taking a great toll upon our business community and hope we can work together to minimize this. We will continue to monitor the ongoing situation as well as encourage our communities to utilize our wonderful business community. Gov. Gary Herbert addressed the state yesterday and issued a “State of Emergency” this past week. According to his remarks, the state is putting in place several recommendations for the next two weeks to minimize any community spread of the virus.
With his below recommendations we will be postponing our April 2nd luncheon and look forward to our May 7th luncheon, and other activities.
Recommendations include the following below:
Mass gatherings should be limited to no more than 100 healthy individuals, beginning March 16. This includes limits to church gatherings, conferences and concerts. It does not apply to schools, at the present time. The state is coordinating with its 41 school districts, including the Taylorsville-area Granite School District, to assess the situation on a case-by-case basis. State officials are advising that if you are sick, please stay home. State officials are taking measures to protect vulnerable populations. Those over age 60 and people who are immunocompromised should avoid gatherings of more than 20 people.
Businesses are advised to put in place and allow employees to telecommute. “Now is the time to do so. We have the technology today to work and be effective,” the governor said.
The state is asking the Utah Department of Health to protect high-risk populations. The governor advised that care centers restrict access and monitor employees and visitors. Gov. Herbert said additional steps may be taken as we move forward. The primary aim is to slow the effect and potential spread of the virus.
As President of the Chamber, I support these measures, decisions and recommendations. As a Chamber, we are also monitoring the situation daily and will keep all informed.
If you are worried about whether you may have COVID-19, please call the Utah Department of Health's Coronavirus Information Line at 1-800-456-7707. https://coronavirus.utah.gov/latest/
We appreciate all our businesses and the wonderful service(s) they provide to our communities. Please reach out to us if you are in need of assistance.
Sincerely,
President, Eric Jensen
