| There has been a major change since last week in favor or small businesses! The U.S. Chamber of Commerce sent out an update that a federal court has halted the implementation of the Corporate Transparence Act (CTA). This preliminary injunction will bar enforcement of the CTA and remain in effect until legal proceedings conclude. A federal court in Texas halted the implementation of the Corporate Transparency Act’s (CTA) beneficial ownership reporting requirements. Holding that the CTA is likely unconstitutional, the court issued a preliminary injunction barring the government from enforcing the CTA and its reporting requirements against anyone.
Why it matters: Prior to the ruling, small businesses that met certain criteria would have had to file reports with the Department of the Treasury by January 1, 2025, or risk fines and criminal penalties.
Looking ahead: The preliminary relief will remain in effect until the conclusion of legal proceedings, at which point the court may enter a permanent injunction. In the meantime, the government will likely appeal the preliminary injunction.
Bottom line: Unless and until an appellate court overrules or narrows the injunction, no businesses are obligated to comply with the reporting requirements. |

The 20-year RTA Next draft plan includes roadway, transit, safety, bicycle, pedestrian and environmental improvements for the greater Tucson region. The regional investment will generate thousands of transportation industry jobs and permanent jobs over the life of the plan and improve the safety, reliability and connectivity of the transportation network for you, your family and the local business community.
The RTA Board will consider your feedback before it prepares a final draft plan for voter consideration as early as November 2025. Take the survey at RTAnext.com/survey.
