This month is your last chance to take in the IPCC’s Native American Student Art Show. This annual exhibit was established to encourage creativity among Native youth and to help them understand that the future preservation and evolution of Native culture lies with them. This show’s theme, “Celebrating Our Pollinators”, gives young artists the opportunity to take a closer look at the environment around us. How do our flowers, plants, and gardens thrive and provide for us? We, as Pueblo people, are thankful for our relationship with the pollinators, and these beautiful creatures are often seen in Pueblo artwork such as pottery, paintings, clothing, and books. The IPCC’s Native American Student Art Show is a showcase for students to share, through their art, how important pollinators are to our environment and our families.

Winning artists each received a prize, and all participants were able to make their works available for sale and receive 100% of the proceeds. Free for members or with museum admission.

The Albuquerque Indian School educated thousands of children in its century of operation from 1881-1981. In this two-part presentation, Historian and Museum Docent Joe Sabatini covers the history of the Albuquerque Indian School and its many interactions with the Albuquerque community, including cultural, athletic, religious and economic relationships. Part two explores the history of the property following the school’s closing, from a political and neighborhood perspective. This includes the deterioration of the campus, the creation of the Indian Pueblos Federal Development Corporation (IPFDC), the reaction of the adjacent neighborhood and the achievement of development agreements with the City of Albuquerque. This enabled the Pueblo people to create a vibrant, thriving cultural and retail corridor in the heart of Albuquerque.
