Second Harvest Food Bank with the help of local volunteers distributes pre-boxed groceries for anyone in need to pick up  from the Foster City Community Center/Library parking lot on the 1st and 3rd Fridays* of the month starting at 8am.

• Members receive a bi-monthly bag of groceries. The bag could include items such as fresh fruits and vegetables, rice, bread, eggs, chicken and much more. Members can pick up one bag per household from the site.

• Applying for this program will not affect your ability to apply for other government benefits or local agencies

• Caregiver, friend or neighbor can pick up your bag for you

Foster City 5K Fun Run – Third Annual Community Event

Get ready for an exhilarating morning at the Third Annual Foster City 5K Fun Run on Saturday, May 2, 2026, starting at 8:00 AM.

Lace up your sneakers and hit the levee for a fun and energizing community run benefiting the Foster City Chamber Foundation. Whether you’re an experienced runner, casual jogger, walker, or cheering from the sidelines, this event is a great way to bring the community together while supporting local programs.

The scenic course runs along the Foster City levee and offers participants a beautiful waterfront route to start their morning. After crossing the finish line, participants and spectators are invited to continue the celebration at the Mother’s Day Weekend Market, featuring vendors, music, and community festivities.

RethinkWaste and Recology San Mateo County are teaming up with the City of Foster City to give residents FREE compost. The compost is made from yard trimmings and food scraps collected through the CartSMART organics collection program at a nearby composting facility. The compost is ideally used as an amendment to enrich soil for lawns, gardens, ornamental plants, trees, and potted plants. By applying compost to landscaping and mixing it with soil, people put organic resources into the soil, providing a non-chemical alternative to fertilizers.

Residents may take up to 1 cubic yard of compost (about 6 garbage cans) .

Residents should bring shovels, gloves, and containers. Proof of residency will be required. Please note that the event will only be available until the time listed or while supplies last.

Document Destruction (Shred) Event

Saturday, May 9, 2026 - 9:00am to 1:00pm

RethinkWaste and Recology San Mateo County are teaming up with the City of Foster City for a FREE Document Destruction (Shred) Event. Bring paper documents and confidential materials for safe and secure shredding done onsite. Limit 3 standard size bankers boxes (10″ x 12″ x 15″) per household.

Please note that proof of residency will be required. The event will only be available until the time listed, until the trucks are full, or while supplies last.
