The goal of the Leavenworth-Lansing Area Chamber's Military Affairs Council (MAC) is to advance the pro-business climate in the area through military affairs initiatives, and to maintain and enhance the business community's relationship with Fort Leavenworth.

The Military Affairs Council works to grow and sustain not only Fort Leavenworth, but other Department of Defense operations in the area.  The MAC functions as a liaison between the local military and business communities, implementing programs which provide greater interaction between Chamber members and DOD/military personnel.  The MAC hosts various events throughout the year that help to further our community relationships and honor military service.

MAC Meetings are held on the first Tuesday of every month.

Military Affairs Council Meetings are open only to members of the Chamber of Commerce (or representatives thereof) as well as any members of military leadership.

Friends of Army Aviation Hosting UH-1 Huey Ride Along Events for Greater Kansas City Area

● KANSAS CITY, MO - The Friends of Army Aviation to host UH-1 Huey ride along events open to the public in the greater Kansas City area Sunday, Sept. 1, thru Sunday, Sept. 8.

The event will allow families and children the opportunity to explore and ride along in a restored UH-1 Huey Helicopter. The ride events will be held at the Commemorative Air Force Museum in New Century, KS (1-3 SEP); Sherman Army Airfield at Fort Leavenworth, KS (5 SEP); and the American Flight Museum in Topeka, KS (6-8 SEP)

At the event, participants will learn about the history of the aircraft and get a chance to examine the helicopter up close or take a ride.

“For more than 50 years, the UH-1 Huey helicopter has held a special place in the hearts of Vietnam Veterans who knew its iconic and unmistakable sound meant help was on the way. Experience that sound for yourself and feel the wind in your face as we fly with the doors open, and gain a greater appreciation for this aircraft and its role on the battlefield”.

The primary mission of the Friends of Army Aviation is to educate the general public about the key contributions of Army Aviation. In addition to education, we aim to inspire young people who may be considering a career in aviation, as well as honoring our Soldiers’ service, both past and present.

“Our goal with the ride along events is to let kids get up close and personal with aircraft they want to explore and to simply provide all families with a fun and educational afternoon.” Eric Puls says.

The events will be held from 9:30 a.m to 5 p.m, subject to weather and participation. Children under the age of sixteen must be accompanied on the ride by a parent or legal guardian, while minors aged sixteen or seventeen may ride alone with a parent or legal guardian’s written permission. On-site tickets will be available the day of the event. We encourage you to come early as we fly on a first come, first fly basis and seats may sell out early. Tickets may be purchased using cash, credit card, Apple Pay, Google Pay, Samsung Pay or Cash App. Ticket pricing and address details are available at the Friends of Army Aviation Website.

About The Friends of Army Aviation
The Friends of Army Aviation is a non-profit public education organization filed under section 501(c)(3) of the IRS. The organization is dedicated to presenting the Army Aviation story to the American people through static displays of legacy Army aircraft and an associated ride program.

For our third year, we are adding additional locations. Some have never been searched before! This year, we are opening the ENTIRE ESTATE at The Manor for searching. Seven acres, with main house, carriage house, spring house, creek, old railroad line, old amusement park grounds. ALL OF IT!

Additionally, we have over a dozen more permissions ALL ON BROADWAY for you to detect. General stores, churches, houses going back to the civil war era.

You know what they say. Third times a charm, and this third annual hunt is going to be a doozy! We are limiting our spaces this year to 150 participants, so get signed up today!!

(Permission at The Manor and two other properties include the entire property. All other permissions are limited to the front yard only. All participants will meet at The Manor on the morning of the 14th, starting at 8:30, and will receive a map of all fifteen locations. You will then be able to go to your starting location and begin detecting at nine. Admission to the hunt requires a $40 donation to the Leavenworth County Historical Society.)

You are invited to a Distinguished Speaker Series dinner event on Sept. 26, 2024, at the Riverfront Community Center in downtown Leavenworth, Kansas (123 S. Esplanade St.). A reception begins at 5:30 p.m., the buffet dinner starts at 6 p.m. and the presentation will begin at 7 p.m.

The U.S. Army’s 1st Infantry Division (1st ID), familiarly known as the Big Red One, adapted to dynamic battlefield conditions throughout the course of its deployment during World War II by innovating and altering behavior, including tactics, techniques, and procedures. Both the division’s leaders and Soldiers accomplished this by thinking critically about their experiences in combat and wasting little time in putting lessons learned to good use. Simply put, they learned on the job — in battle and after battle — and did so quickly. In this edition of our Distinguished Speaker Series, Retired Army Colonel Greg Fontenot will provide details about the 1st ID’s experiences in WWII he researched and wrote about in his recently published book No Sacrifice Too Great.

Tickets are $35/person in advance or $40/person at the door.
