Join us on Sunday, October 1 for Vista's Tour de Shore 2023!

This annual cycling event and fundraiser features a variety of route lengths for cyclists of all abilities, starting at the Westbrook Elks Lodge and traveling along Connecticut’s scenic shoreline at the peak of fall foliage. All participants will come together on event day to ride and celebrate their hard work with food, music, and raffle prizes!

The concert program  highlights the clarinet and the string quartet in two brilliant and challenging compositions by Anton Weber and Johannes Brahms: Weber’s Clarinet Quintet in B flat Major, and  Brahms’ Clarinet Quintet Op. 115.
 
The clarinet soloist is Matthew Goodman, who has been praised by the NY Times for his “beautiful range of colors,” , and was one of the original orchestra members for Phantom of the Opera on Broadway. Joining him is Circle of Friends, a string quartet consisting of NY based professional musicians who have performed as soloists, as well as in numerous chamber music ensembles and orchestras.

The Madison Historical Society will offer walking tours of Madison’s historic downtown area every Saturday at 10:30 am through October 28. The student-led tours begin at the Society’s Allis-Bushnell House at 853 Boston Post Road and take participants down Main Street to explore  hidden gems in the fascinating history of Madison.

The student guides will share captivating stories and interesting facts about the town’s past and present, bringing the rich culture and vibrant atmosphere of historic Madison alive. Afterward, participants may enjoy the opportunity to explore local shops and other sites as they immerse themselves in the unique character of this charming town.The tours will appeal to both residents and visitors who are interested in architecture and history, and to those curious about Madison’s vivid past and its lively present. For all, it will be a fun and entertaining outing.

Ranger Russ (Miller), Director at the Meigs Point Nature Center in Hammonasset Beach State Park, will walk us through the fascinating environment of the trail and the fall habitats of the trail’s permanent residents.

Coffee, breakfast bites and networking at this FREE member event.

The Madison Historical Society will continue its monthly History Happy Hour series on Friday, October 20, from 6 to 7 pm, at the Society’s historic Allis-Bushnell House at 853 Boston Post Road, Madison. The October 20 event will feature architect Robert Barnett, author of Deconstructing Stone Buildings: a Journey Through New England. In his book, Mr. Barnett takes readers on a virtual journey to eleven pairs of stone buildings and quarries in the six New England states. Deconstruction, as defined in this book, is a process that involves taking apart a building, examining its various elements, searching its historical sources, and ending at a quarry. The History Happy Hour presentation will offer a brief overview of the book with an opportunity for lively discussion, followed by a social hour. Featured buildings range from the 1820s to the 2020s. Signed copies of the book will be available for sale at a discount.

One of the most beloved family events of the Halloween season is the Monster Bash brought to you by The Barn and the Madison Newcomers. Ghosts and Ghouls of all ages come together to dance to music played by DJ Bry, participate in activities, and enjoy playing games on the game tables. 

Costumes are optional but encouraged.
We will have a costume contest that will see the winner home with a high-tech indoor Smores-making kit.

Fluid painting involves layering acrylic paints of different densities and incorporating certain additives (i.e. silicone, dimethicone, alcohol, Dawn dish soap (etc.) which can result in gorgeous combinations of paint, cells, and lacing.  Techniques include the flip cup and the dirty pour.
Each participant will make 4 coasters as a gift for themselves or as a hostess gift for others No experience necessary.

Bring a flashlight and join the Madison Land Trust for an evening stroll on the Garvan Trail at the Surf Club.  A bagpiper will lead the way.  After the walk, refreshments will be served in the Surf Club building, and members of the Astronomical Society of New Haven will set up telescopes for viewing the moon, planets and stars in the night-time sky.

Residents, civic groups, nonprofits and businesses are invited to join us for the 12th Annual Trunk or Treat.
Anyone planning to bring your vehicle to hand out treats MUST register.
Your vehicle must be in place on the Green NO LATER THAN 3:30. PLEASE enter from the Meetinghouse Lane side (NOT the Post Road side), and feel free to decorate your trunk/vehicle for Halloween. Trick or treaters arrive starting at 4:00 PM, the event will end at 6:00 PM
