A Short History of the Incredible Women's Suffrage Movement


The change in the status of women began with new ideas about the civil and human rights of individuals. To honor the centennial of the 19th Amendment, Debbie Hanson with the Questers organization will discuss the thinkers who formulated new concepts of the role of women and how those ideas influenced changes in women’s roles and lives. Presented by the Litchfield Park Historical Society in partnership with the Church at Litchfield Park.

Women's Suffrage: The West Led the Way

Dr. Joye Kohl with the Questers organization will examine the role of all western states, the State of Kansas and the Territory of Alaska in leading the nation with the passage of women’s suffrage prior to 1915. This presentation further explores the role the West played in supporting the struggle of other women working for the right to vote through a constitutional amendment. Presented by the Litchfield Park Historical Society in partnership with the Church at Litchfield Park.

Certified CCW 6 Law and legal: @AZ Firearms

During this 6-hour non-shooting course we will review the basic components of legal Concealed Carry Weapons, mental awareness, interactions with law enforcement and how to properly plan for before and after a self-defense conflict. All necessary paperwork will be provided and your application and fingerprint cards will be completed during class. Following the completion of the course, you will be able to submit your completed packet to DPS for a Concealed Weapons Permit issued by the Arizona Department of Public Safety.

The Litchfield Park Historical Society Museum will host Hands-On History Day, a free, educational event highlighting local history with hands-on activities, demonstrations, and informational displays from 10 a.m. - 4 p.m. at the museum. Explore what life was like during the early decades of the 20th century. The museum will also be open for visitors to view its most recent exhibits, Stagecoaches to Spacecraft: The Story of Goodyear and Avondale and The Spanish Flu of 1918: A Pandemic’s Local Legacy. West-MEC 5K Run/Walk

West-MEC and West-MEC Alliance Education Foundation to Host Community 5K Run/Walk in Peoria


WHAT:  2nd Annual West-MEC 5K Run/Walk
 
WHO:   Runners, community members, families, students and educators 
 
WHEN:  Sunday, April 5, 2020 from 7:30 a.m. – 10 a.m.
 
WHERE:  Rio Vista Park at 8866 W Thunderbird Rd, Peoria, AZ 85381
 
Glendale, Ariz. – Feb. 19, 2020 – Western Maricopa Education Center (West-MEC) in partnership with the West-MEC Alliance education foundation will host the 2nd Annual West-MEC 5K on Sunday, April 5, 2020 at Rio Vista Park in Peoria. Along with the race activities, the event will showcase West-MEC’s career training programs for high school and adult students. Funds raised from the event will support West-MEC student scholarships.
 
The 5K race will begin at 7:30 a.m., followed by a kids fun dash for ages 8 and under. Participants will receive a race bib, event t-shirt, and custom medal. 


Registration for the race is now available. Discounts are available for early registration through March 14. Racers must register by March 29, 2020 to receive the commemorative race t-shirt.

The West-MEC Alliance is a nonprofit education foundation focused on the success of Western Maricopa Education Center (West-MEC) students. A Beacon of Hope Presentation: Student Loans

The presentation, in particular, will primarily focus on Pre-College and existing College students how to eliminate their student debt in recording breaking time to avoid long term obligations post-graduation.

This is a "Lunch N' Learn" $10 admission fee workshop. Lunch will be available. Please, no children are recommended to attend this event.
