She was life-threateningly ill and wants to prevent what happened to her from happening to others. The mission of the LRF is to find a cure through awareness and funding research. The researcher they fund, Dr. Timothy Niewold, has discovered a grouping of genes that can predict lupus. This will save lives because it will give people a chance to take preventative therapy (nip lupus in the bud before it ever even flares).
