Events in the month of November 2022

The Woman’s Club of White Stone is pleased to welcome local author, Nan Harvey, as guest speaker at their monthly meeting to be held on Wednesday morning, November 2nd, in their White Stone clubhouse.  Nan, who currently lives in Northumberland, will read from her book, A History Not Past, which is a historical fiction tale about her Scottish ancestor, Robert Lindsay.  The founding member of the Lindsay clan in the colony, he and his guardian, Reverend David Lindsay, the second rector at Wicomico Parish Church, emigrated from Fife, Scotland to the Northern Neck in the mid-1600's.  Using land and court records as well as historical accounts from Virginia and Scotland, Nan was able to recreate the common man’s life, weaving in her own experiences of sailing on the Chesapeake Bay.  Please join us as she shares her story full of stunning events and beautiful descriptions of the land into which Lindsay sailed.

The Irvington Farmers Market has been voted consistently as Best Farmers Market on Virginia's East Coast by Virginia Living Magazine.  Our focus is on area farms and the best quality local produce available.  Our vendors feature vegetables and fruits and the wonderful array of products made from them, along with fresh homemade bread and bakery goods.  You'll find artisanal cheeses, along with local honey, meat, and seafood. In addition, we have vendors from across the region who offer handmade crafts, jewelry, and clothing.  You are likely to find beautiful handmade furniture, glassware, and baskets; soaps and artwork of all kinds. Food, flowers, and gifts galore!

This is a popular, weekly event at Good Luck Cellars (GLC) and one you must enjoy if you’re in the area. We make fresh sangria each week, featuring a GLC wine. We make a different recipe each week -- sometimes it’s white, and sometimes it’s red. During the colder months, we make a warm, seasonal version that’ll warm the soul :0)

When it’s gone…it’s gone…until the next Sunday, of course, when we make a new batch. Come Sip and Sangria with us.

IMPORTANT NOTE: SANGRIA IS NOT SERVED ON DURING THE CORKS & OYSTERS EVENTS IN APRIL & NOVEMBER.

Take a Walk on the Wild Side with this monthly series of true nature walks. In November, we will hunt for the fungi and lichens of Belle Isle State Park! Local volunteer naturalists will share a variety of natural history topics, point out aspects of the park's many habitats (ideal for plant and animal life viewing), and provide participants with nature-photography tips should they need assistance. The walk will be conducted at a leisurely pace to allow stops along the way to observe and discuss seasonal aspects of what is happening at the park. Be sure to dress for the weather, wear closed toe shoes appropriate for walking, and bring a water bottle. For more information or to find out where to meet for this month's hike, call the park at 804-462-5030. Pre-registration is required.
