September is suicide prevention month, Madison Youth and Family Services and M.A.D.E. has created a "virtual walk" for the month of September. In the US we lose someone to suicide every 11 minutes, so we are asking community members of all ages to walk/run/bike/move in any way that works for them for 11 minutes a week or 11 miles a week (depending on ability) to honor those who have been impacted by suicide. Through September participants will receive weekly emails that contain information about suicide prevention and messages of support /keeping them accountable to the 11 minutes/miles....and swag! Sign up with this link or QR Code. Email zeiglerj@madisonct.org with any questions. https://docs.google.com/.../1FAIpQLSefho7hIEIY9j.../viewform

Tickets are selling fast for the World Famous Glenn Miller Orchestra concert hosted by the First Congregational Church of Madison part of their Music at the Meetinghouse concert series! With its unique and timeless jazz sound, the Glenn Miller Orchestra is considered to be one of the greatest bands of all time.

General admission is $35; the front two rows are $95, and the next two rows are $65. All balcony seats except the inner perimeter have limited viewing and are $20. Choose your seat and pay online, and simply print out your tickets bring them with you the evening of the concert.

The legendary Glenn Miller was one of the most successful of all dance bandleaders back in the Swing Era of the 1930’s and 40’s. A matchless string of hit records, the constant impact of radio broadcasts and the drawing power at theatres, hotels and dance pavilion, built and sustained the momentum of popularity. On December 15, 1944, Major Miller took off in a plane from Europe to precede his band to France, disappearing over the English Channel, never to be seen again.

With the release of the major motion movie The Glenn Miller Story, featuring Jimmy Stewart and June Allyson in 1954, interest and popular demand led the Miller Estate to authorize the formation of the present Glenn Miller Orchestra. In 1956, under the direction of drummer Ray McKinley who had become the unofficial leader of the Army Air Force Band after Glenn’s disappearance, the reformed Glenn Miller Orchestra performed its first concert and has been on the road ever since. Today, the 18 member ensemble, under the direction of vocalist Nick Hilscher, continues to play many of the original Miller arrangements. Just as it was in Glenn’s day, the Glenn Miller Orchestra today is still the most sought after big band in the world.

Tickets are on sale now. Visit www.fccmadison.org to pick your seat and pay online or call: 203-245-2739, ext. 14.

Storytellers Denise Page and Jennifer Munro will perform at Guilford Art Center on Thursday, September 26, as part of the GreenStage@GAC series of live events that bring together the performing and visual arts.

Under the name Black & Silver Productions, Denise and Jen received a 2022 GreenStage Artists’ Award; they curated and presented a collection of five women’s stories at the 2023 GreenStage festival last September. At this event, they’ll be telling their own stories, playing off works in the Guilford Art League’s 76th annual juried exhibition.

Munro, storyteller, author, educator and humorist, grew up in the English Midlands and fell in love with the spoken word at an early age. She’s performed at festivals throughout the United States and internationally; published a collection of short stories; and received a Circle of Excellence Award from the National Storytelling Network. She teaches workshops on the art and practice of storytelling, and she and Page co-produce a series of shows in Connecticut called Women Tell: Our Stories Through the Decades.

Page, a Connecticut native, is a social justice advocate who’s newer to storytelling but no less talented for it. She’s performed at the National Storytelling Network’s annual conference, Women’s Storytelling Festival and International Festival of Arts and Ideas. She founded Ubuntu Storytellers, which illuminates social justice issues via storytelling, workshops and action. She’s on the board of Northeast Storytelling, is vice president of the Connecticut Storytelling Center and president-elect of the National Speakers Association’s Connecticut chapter.
