The Madison Historical Society will resume its monthly History Happy Hour series on Friday, October 4, from 6 to 7 pm, at the Society’s historic Allis-Bushnell House at 853 Boston Post Road, Madison.

The first History Happy Hour of the season will feature MHS trustee and Madison Town Historian, Henry Griggs, in a presentation entitled “Madison in the Golden Age of Postcards.” Henry has been collecting postcards of Madison since 1998, when he received a framed collage of twelve cards as a housewarming gift. He now owns more than 800 different cards dating back to 1904. His talk will focus on Madison’s history from roughly 1905 to 1916, when the rise of leisure and travel and relaxed postal regulations combined with new printing technologies to create an environment in which hundreds of millions of hand-colored postcards were mailed annually. Henry’s PowerPoint presentation will feature a delightful array of representative examples from his collection.

Additional History Happy Hours of the 2024-2025 season are scheduled for November 8 in 2024 and February 14 and April 22 in 2025. Each event features a brief but fascinating presentation about Madison history, followed by a chance to socialize and enjoy beverages and hors d’oeuvres with fellow history buffs in the 1785 Allis-Bushnell House.

St. Andrew's Episcopal Church cordially invites you to join us for a screening of The Philadelphia Eleven
In an act akin to civil disobedience, a group of women and their supporters organize their ordination to become Episcopal priests in 1974. The Church of the Advocate in Philadelphia welcomes them, but change is no small task. The women are harassed, threatened and banned from stepping on church property.
In this feature-length documentary film, we meet the women who challenge the very essence of patriarchy within Christendom and succeed in building a movement that transforms an age-old institution.
We invite you to remain after the screening with discussion with The Rev. Rachel Thomas, The Rev. Dr. Linda Spiers, and St. Andrew's Rector, The Rev. Shariya Molegoda.
