Barry-Lawrence County Development Center Celebrates Remarkable Community Support and New Building Project
The Barry-Lawrence County Development Center (BLCDC) is thrilled to announce the success of its recent building project and fundraising efforts. Starting in early 2017, the BLCDC team boldly embarked on this journey, thanks to the generous donation of property by Randy and Julie Witt in December 2017. Through a series of successful fundraisers, the community's support has been overwhelming.
While landscaping for the new building is still underway, the BLCDC has already raised and invested $1,500,000 in the project. This achievement has been made possible by the contributions of hundreds of donors. Notable supporters include the Barry County Tax Board of the Developmentally Disabled, Sunderland Foundation, Margaret & Jack Prim, First Lady's Moving Missouri Forward Foundation, Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-Day Saints, The Monarch Fund, Fuldner Family Foundation, Randy & Julie Witt, Tony Wormington, Scott Beckwith, and the Lawrence County Tax Board of the Developmentally Disabled. The BLCDC extends heartfelt gratitude to all who have donated or participated in fundraisers, recognizing the immense support received over the past several years.
The new facility, located at 220 Chapell Drive (mailing address: PO Box 246), enables BLCDC to continue its mission of providing intensive therapies to preschoolers with disabilities. Operating Monday through Thursday from 9:30 am to 12:30 pm, the program currently serves 19 children. Additionally, the center has acquired two new vehicles through the 5310 program at MODOT, with local matches from the Barry and Lawrence County Tax Boards of the Developmentally Disabled.
The funding for BLCDC's programs comes from contracted area school districts, the two county tax boards for the developmentally disabled, various fundraisers, and generous donations from community members and businesses.
For more information or to support the BLCDC, please get in touch with them at blcdc@sofnet.com
