In the early 1970’s after returning from Vietnam, where he served as an Army Medical Corpsman, Chris began his creative pursuits in a therapeutic capacity. During his travels, unable to pack around a hoard of painting supplies, he began his journey with embroidery. Recovering from a silent heart attack in February, 2015, he had a realization that it was time to reignite the art within.  Returning to his beloved Plumas County in September 2015, be began, what is to date, a 64-month odyssey in hand embroidered works of art, calling this effort of needlework, Every Stitch Matters.  The original designs and images are drawn from a host of sources and ideas.  The larger pieces (14” to 18” hoops) can take up to 200 to 240 hours to complete, requiring great patience and a tremendous amount of needle threading!  Smaller, more detailed works and patches require splitting the six-strand floss down sometimes to a single strand to achieve detail.

More information about Chris’s work can be found at plumasarts.org/April-2022. The Plumas Arts Gallery and office hours are Wednesday thru Friday, from 11 a.m. to 5 p.m. Plumas Arts will be open Saturdays 11am to 4pm starting Saturday April 23rd.

Two years of stalking the streets as the Batman (Robert Pattinson), striking fear into the hearts of criminals, has led Bruce Wayne deep into the shadows of Gotham City. With only a few trusted allies—Alfred Pennyworth (Andy Serkis), Lt. James Gordon (Jeffrey Wright)— amongst the city’s corrupt network of officials and high‐profile figures, the lone vigilante has established himself as the sole embodiment of vengeance amongst his fellow citizens. When a killer targets Gotham’s elite with a series of sadistic machinations, a trail of cryptic clues sends the World’s Greatest Detective on an investigation into the underworld, where he encounters such characters as Selina Kyle/aka Catwoman (Zoe Kravitz), Oswald Cobblepot/aka the Penguin (Colin Farrell), Carmine Falcone (John Turturro), and Edward Nashton/aka the Riddler (Paul Dano). As the evidence begins to lead closer to home and the scale of the perpetrator’s plans becomes clear, Batman must forge new relationships, unmask the culprit, and bring justice to the abuse of power and corruption that has long plagued Gotham.

• This 176 minute Action Film is Rated PG-13 for strong violent and disturbing content, drug content, strong language, and some suggestive material for violence/action and language.

About the Presentation: Increasing extent and frequency of high severity wildfires and other large-scale disturbances pose a significant threat to California’s ecosystems. This is apparent in forest and shrubland landscapes, where departure from natural fire regimes may result in large-scale alteration of terrestrial ecosystems and deterioration in the services they provide. Based on these trends and a broader consideration of sustainability, there is a growing need for a comprehensive, science-based approach to post-fire management. We propose a framework to guide the development of post-fire restoration strategies on the national forests in California. The framework is founded on a set of guiding principles and a five-step process that leads to the development of a restoration portfolio containing a suite of potential postfire restoration actions. The restoration framework can inform future post-fire management, monitoring, and research in burned landscapes of California’s national forests.

About the Speaker: Michelle Coppoletta is currently an ecologist with the U.S. Forest Service in the Sierra Cascade Province, which covers the Modoc, Lassen, and Plumas National Forests.

Based on the stage musical adapted from "Cyrano de Bergerac" by Edmond Rostand about Savinien de Cyrano de Bergerac. A historical character mythologized by Rostand. Cyrano was a bold and innovative author, his work was part of the libertine literature of the first half of the 17th century. A man ahead of his time, Cyrano de Bergerac dazzles whether with ferocious wordplay at a verbal joust or with brilliant swordplay in a duel. But, convinced that his appearance renders him unworthy of the love of a devoted friend, the luminous Roxanne, Cyrano has yet to declare his feelings for her and Roxanne has fallen in love, at first sight, with Christian. Too self-conscious to woo Roxanne himself, wordsmith Cyrano de Bergerac helps young Christian nab her heart through love letters.

• This 123 minute Romantic Musical Drama is Rated PG-13 for some strong violence, thematic and suggestive material, and brief language.
