Monday, May 12. Please use this dedicated time to remove all accepted trash/junk from your property. Curbside pickup of items will be grabbed by R & S Waste. Call 800-730-3471 with any questions.

Prohibited items that will NOT be accepted: cement, medical waste, paint, tires, animal refuse, batteries, yard waste, and electronics. 

The City of Shelby will also provide a metal recycle area for all metal items located at the old carwash, west of the Fire Hall. This is for metal items ONLY - no electronics.

Iowa Western Community College, in partnership with First Responders Foundation, is offering free first responders specific training sessions at their Council Bluffs, Clarinda, Page/Fremont, and Shelby County locations. These courses focus on enhancing skills, personal growth, wellness, and community impact for first responders. Classes will be held from 6 - 8 pm.

Join us for kayaking at Prairie Rose State Park, 680 RD M47, Harlan, on Sunday, May 25 at 1:30 p.m.  We will meet on the east side of the lake (east side of County Road M47).  Kayaks, life jackets, and paddles will be provided.  All ages are welcome.  Children under the age of 12 must be accompanied by an adult on the water.

The Harlan Fire Department, 909 Cyclone Avenue, Harlan, is hosting a Celebration of Life for two former Chiefs, Jerald (Jerry) Wigness: January 26, 1940 - January 23, 2025, fire chief 1974 - 83) and Larry (Gus) Gustason: May 31, 1937 - April 12, 2023, fire chief 1983 - 86 at the Harlan Fire Station. 

Greet Family Members starting at 2 pm. Celebration of Life, 3 pm. Social time and meal to follow.
