The North Dakota-Manitoba District of the Metropolitan Opera Laffont Competition is a prestigious opera competition for young, aspiring opera singers. The singers each perform two opera arias for the audience and three internationally known expert judges. The purpose of the Laffont Competition is to discover exceptional young talent and provide a venue for young opera singers across North America at all levels of development to be heard by representatives of the Metropolitan Opera and to assist those with the greatest potential for operatic careers. The competition is held annually in twelve Regions of the United States and Canada. There are approximately forty Districts within these Regions, each providing an opportunity for talented singers to enter the competition at the local level.
