Join us for WCEDA's annual State of the County event featuring County Administrator, Mark Luberda!

This year, in collaboration with our local chambers and visitors bureaus, we are going conference style with this popular event by featuring four breakout sessions.

Location:
UW-Whitewater's NEW Community Engagement Center
1260 W Main St., Whitewater, WI 53190
The Community Engagement Center (CEC) serves as the central hub to which all faculty, staff, students, and community members should feel engaged with and supported to conduct community–engaged learning, projects, and research.

Schedule:
7:30-9:00am - State of the County Presentation

Mark Luberda - Walworth County Administrator

Tom Walsh - Economist, Wisconsin Department of Workforce Development

Derek D'Auria - Executive Director, WCEDA

9:15-10:00am - Breakouts (choose one)
 - Housing
Not only is affordable housing impacting available workforce, it is also impacting many school districts within our county. Our panel will report on the status of affordable housing in Walworth County and discuss how neighboring communities have addressed this issue in positive ways. This is the type of challenge that needs support across multiple constituent groups, employers, parents, residents, and municipal leaders.

Gale Price - VP Business Banking, Blackhawk Bank
Former Economic Development Director, City of Janesville

Russ Kashian - Professor, UW-Whitewater
Executive Director, Fiscal and Economic Research Center (FERC)

Brad Lois - Realtor, Bear Realty

 - Cyber Security and Cyber-liability
Pete Weigel of Midwest IT, joined by Kevin Kaufmann of UW-Whitewater and the Cybersecurity Center for Business, will be reviewing some common cyber-liability items that are overlooked and tend to come up during an insurance renewal. They will also be reviewing the business reasons to implement these security items, not just insurance reasons. Here are some topics that will be touched on:
• MFA
• VPNs
• Proper Firewall Protection
• Encryption (Hard Drive and Email)
• Security Awareness
• Advanced Threat Protection
• Endpoint Detection & Response
• Backup and Disaster Recovery Setup & Review

Pete Weigel - Midwest IT Solutions

Kevin Kaufmann - Director of Business Outreach College of Business and Economics, UW-Whitewater
Director, Cybersecurity Center for Business

10:15-11:00am - Breakouts (choose one)
 - Childcare
Available, affordable child care repeatedly comes up near the top of the list of barriers affecting workforce availability. Walworth County Economic Development Alliance (WCEDA) has been contracted by the county to evaluate the status of child care impacting our employers. While the study has not been completed yet, this session will share some glimpses into key issues, findings, and solutions that are being evaluated.
