This annual regatta on the Rappahannock River off Irvington is a beautiful race for classic sailboats that combines fun, seamanship and savvy with good times and the opportunity to help others by raising money for local hospice services, all in one great weekend. This "Turkey Shoot" regatta (named for its earlier timing closer to Thanksgiving), is one of the largest regattas on the Bay and is the second largest hospice regatta in the US and had earlier been named by the Chesapeake Bay Magazine as "the Best in the Bay." www://turkeyshoot.org.
This 3-day event is a combined effort of the Irvington Community, Hospice Support Services of the Northern Neck, Riverside Hospice Agencies, Rappahannock River Yacht Club and Yankee Point Yacht Club, with shore-side events, including some open to the public such as happy hour on Friday October 4th and dinner on October 5th, at the RRYC at 100 Rappahannock Road, Irvington.
