High Mountain Riders Quincy was formed more than 15 years ago by a group of people who wanted to sponsor, cultivate and foster an interest in horses, horsemanship and horse related activities such as, clinics, horse safety, horse shows, trail rides, horse camping, play days, pleasure and combined driving.
We have partnered with the USFS to develop two (2) equine camps on the Plumas national forest. The first is Snake Lake near Quincy, the second is Meadow View Guard Station near Doyle. Back Country Horsemen has been very helpful in both camps. The Feather River College rodeo team has helped with corral building as has the college welding class. We hope to develop more equine camps in our area.
We have also joined with the USFS to develop and maintain many trails that are shared with horseback riders, hikers, mountain bikers and cross country skiers. We have held several workshops on “Trail Etiquette” and sharing the trails to foster cooperation between these different sports.
We do two schooling shows a year. The week before the Feather River College horse sale, equine students come to hone their skills and show off the horses they have trained for the sale. Just before the Plumas Sierra County Fair, many 4H youngsters come to our schooling shows to practice for that event.
