Each week, Check, Please! Arizona features a trio of guests who dine and then review three local restaurants they recommended to each other. James Beard award-winning chef Robert McGrath hosts the half-hour program.

ASU is recruiting for Spring 2016 SparXX 20 Business Education Program

The ASU SparXX Initiative is a series of programs and activities at Arizona State University that focus on supporting women in starting and growing new businesses. SparXX programs and activities are designed for women who are just beginning to explore entrepreneurship and business ownership, as well as women who have been business owners for years and are seeking support to take their businesses to the next level.

SparXX 20 is a business education program for women business owners in revenue of under $1Million/year and ready to scale.

SparXX 20 business owners participate in:
Six in-depth workshops
taught by expert faculty
Tuesdays, 4-8pm at SkySong, March 22nd to April 26th.
The application deadline is February 23rd at 11:59pm.

Peoria City Council Announces New Vice Mayor


Peoria City Council named Councilwoman Bridget Binsbacher Vice Mayor to serve a one-year term in the role.

"Serving the residents of the Mesquite District and the City of Peoria is an honor I take very seriously every single day," said Binsbacher. "In this new role, I look forward to helping Mayor Carlat and this council continue to move our modern, growing city in the direction our citizens want to go."

The Vice Mayor is named by the members of the Council and performs the duties of the Mayor during her absence or disability, according to Peoria’s City Charter. Binsbacher was elected to represent the Mesquite District by voters and sworn in March 2014.

Peoria City Council Announces New Mayor Pro Tem


Peoria City Council last named Councilman Jon Edwards Mayor Pro Tem to serve a one-year term in the role.

“I am honored that my council colleagues again selected me to serve as Mayor Pro Tem. I’m pleased to serve,” said Edwards.

The Mayor Pro Tem is named by the members of the Council and performs the duties of the Mayor during the Mayor’s absence or disability, in the event the Vice Mayor is not able. Edwards was elected to represent the Willow District by voters in November 2012 and sworn in January 2013.

New Fitness Program for Kids!
 
Did you know that one in three children is physically active every day, according to the President’s Council on Fitness, Sports and Nutrition? It is recommended that children need 60 minutes a day of physical activity.

To help give kids that opportunity, Rio Vista Recreation Center is introducing a new fitness program for kids ages 8-12 years called Rio R.E.A.C.H. for Fitness.

Sponsored by St. Joseph’s Westgate Medical Center, this new program will debut on Jan. 20 and will include fitness classes, a Mighty Mountain Challenge at the Climbing Wall, Step It Up Rio walk/run incentive program at the walking track and more. This program is included with a family pass. Family involvement is key to the success and family members are encouraged to participate in special events and fitness classes.
