President's Corner

If you missed last Friday’s P83 party at the Peoria Sports Complex, you missed out on a terrific evening!  Better mark your calendar right now for the next one set for Friday, June 3rd.   It’s a great evening for the whole family so plan to attend.

You’re probably noticing some great additions coming to the P83 Entertainment District.  In the old Fox & Hound, we have Modern Round joining us.  They are a virtual shooting lounge with great entertainment, food and things to do - http://www.modernround.com/ check them out here and see what’s coming!

We also have a new restaurant place opening soon (they’re hoping for end of June) called Headquarters Grill/Bar/Sushi that is across the street from Harkins Theaters.  If you’ve been around here for a while you’ll know the spot as the old Krispy Kreme building.  The two guys who own it are from New Jersey and plan on making all their own food from scratch.  This looks to be a very fun place and I can’t wait for them to open so we can have some Chamber events there.

You may have also noticed that Corner Bakery Café is no more – rumor has it that a great new pizza place is headed for there and I’ve also heard that the old Satara building is about to have a new restaurant/bar coming in that is supposed to be fantastic.  Keep your eyes peeled to our newsletter to learn about their openings.  P83 is really going to be THE place in the West Valley to have a great time!

I just came back from attending the Senior Recognition Event for the MET Professional Academy (Medical, Engineering & Technology) at Peoria High School.  I’ve had the privilege of sitting on the Advisory Committee for this incredible program and this is their first class of graduating seniors.  The student accomplishments shared with us today make me very proud to be associated with MET.  The many awards this group has received is amazing and to hear their plans for the future had to make their parents and teachers proud.  I guess today’s students have found things more meaningful than playing sports and chasing girls.  Who knew??

Make sure you look at all the upcoming events on the Events Calendar and listed to the right – our Chamber has a lot going on that you will definitely want to be a part of that’s designed to help each of your businesses grow and prosper.  Make it a point to join us!

Your Tax-Credit Donation Offers a Brighter Future for Arizona Students with Disabilities LDIEF, a 501(c)(3) School Tuition Organization (STO), exists for the sole purpose of collecting tax-credit donations that provide tuition scholarships to less fortunate children and/or young adults.  Your dollar-for-dollar tax-credit donation offers private education to a deserving teen or young adult and… it costs you nothing!

Corporations have the power of choice to donate up to 100% of their annual state income tax liability to LDIEF and receive a dollar-for-dollar tax credit. The 2016 cap is $62 million for low income and $5 million for Disabled/Displaced students with a deadline of July 1.

Individuals using the Original Income Tax Credit can donate up to $545 or $1,090 (married filing jointly).  Additionally, the New Overflow/Plus Tax Credit allows individuals to donate an additional dollar-for-dollar tax credit up to $542 or $1,083 (married filing jointly). Donations may be made throughout the year.

LDIEF scholarships are open to any applicant, and specifically assist students with Autism, ADHD, and Learning Disabilities with funding for high school programs that offer education, community, and workforce preparation. These programs provide a pathway of opportunity for graduating students to successfully transition to adult living, employability, and higher education.

They need to raise the final $1800 needed to attend this year’s National Competition held in Atlanta, Georgia from June 27th to July 3rd. Through car washes, selling candles and a number of other funding raising activities, they have raised $5,152 on their own.
