President's Corner
Hi Everyone!
I’ve just returned from a terrific monthly luncheon at Arizona Broadway Theatre where our speaker today was David Moss from Leadership West. He shared some frightening facts on how today’s population is becoming increasingly disengaged for civic minded participation and generally getting involved in anything. Because of this trend, we are seeing a drop in people wanting to be on school boards, non-profit boards and in our case, even Chambers of Commerce. He stressed that the more people opt to back away, the more decisions that affect us are going to be made by someone else who may have their own agenda.
Leadership West has a new program starting this Fall and the application deadline is July 15th. For more information on their amazing programs visit www.leadershipwest.org
We had our first Networking Breakfast this past Tuesday at Brother’s Family Restaurant in Old Town Peoria – what fun way to start the day! Roughly 30 people attended enjoying a delicious breakfast with several choices available. We have our own room so we can talk, share and laugh as much as we like. Stop by and join us for our next one at 7:30 am on June 21st.
This month’s Luke Bags get delivered tomorrow. If you would like to contribute something promoting your business to the 50 service members and their families rotating in each month, bring it down to the Chamber office and we will include them in next month’s bags. Examples are: pens, cups, koozies, brochures, coupons, calendars, carry bags or anything else you can think of to entice them to visit your business. The bags get delivered the beginning of each month.
Make it a point to join us for our 97th Anniversary & Community Awards Banquet. We are presenting awards to individuals and businesses who have contributed greatly to our City and the Chamber. Our guest speaker is Peoria Mayor Cathy Carlat and we will also be hearing from some of the families who founded Peoria. It will be a fun and interesting evening.

Meet the Peoria Air Conditioning & Heating Professionals at TemperaturePro
As a family Veteran owned company John and Robin McCombs (both Veterans) are very proud to be the heating and a/c repair company of choice, for many Peoria home and business owners. Our technicians have over 70 years of combined experience installing, repairing and maintaining all kinds of heating, cooling and indoor air quality systems and are committed to providing excellent service to every customer, every day.
The HVAC industry has produced a broad range of climate control systems over the years, and as full-service air conditioning and heating repair company, we install and service all of them. Our products include: Central air conditioners and heat pumps, Water heaters and a wide variety of other indoor air quality systems such as air purifiers, air cleaners and ventilators.
Air Conditioning problems are never convenient, but our repair team will make it as easy as possible to get back on your feet as soon as possible. We offer flexible hours and emergency on-call service. On after hours calls, it will likely be John or Robin answering the phone. We work carefully and diligently to fix the whole problem and never push for system replacement, if repairing your existing unit is technically and financially an option.
We know your family depends on your heating and cooling systems to stay comfortable, and we believe you should be able to trust the people who repair and maintain them. Most of our technicians hold NATE certification, meaning they’ve shown their ability to repair and maintain all makes and models of HVAC equipment. We supplement that factory training with plenty of ongoing on-the-job professional development.
When you call TemperaturePro, you can be certain that your HVAC systems will get top-quality service at a reasonable price. Call us at 602-789-3000 or visit our website to learn more at http://www.temperaturepronwvalley.com/

The Peoria Chamber of Commerce has contracted with Independent Newsmedia, Inc. to produce a new Chamber Membership Directory and Visitor’s Guide. The new Directory will be published and updated quarterly, so new members maybe included and business information and advertising can be changed/updated if needed.

The Directory will also contain information for Visitors on “Things to do in Peoria”, featuring Lake Pleasant, Hiking & Biking Trails, Arts, Culture and Sports venues, Challenger Space Center, Golf Courses and other points of interest our visitors enjoy seeing and doing.
The staff of Independent Newsmedia will be reaching out to all Chamber members to offer advertising opportunities in this exclusive members only, Peoria Chamber publication.

Adopt a Planter in Old Town Peoria
In the next few months, a project will begin in Old Town Peoria to revitalize the area and begin investing into the Old Town Arts District. The grassroots arts movement wil be the incubator to a "Creative Placemaking" project that will benefit businesses and residents of the City of Peoria in its economic development by providing a destination for tourism and beauty to those who live near. WHAM Art Association will oversee the project with the oversite of the Think Tank for Revitalization of Old Town Peoria sponsored by City Councilwoman Vicki Hunt.
The Project: To refurbish and embellish 27-30 large planters along 83rd Ave and Washington in the heart of Old Town Peoria. These planters would be decorated by artists and residents in mosaics, paint, and found objects.
Anticipated Timeline: The project will begin in summer 2016 and will be complete in March 2017 with the last planted decorated and set into place.
If you want to be a part of this project, please please contact Connie Whitlock at WHAMart@aol.com with your group or number of people who would like to participate.
