President's Corner

Hi Everyone!

If any of you took advantage of the pre-opening invite from Noodles & Company, you know just how delicious the food is.  The service was terrific, food was a great variety and every entrée any of us tried was really tasty.  They opened to the public as of Monday, so if you haven’t tried them you should check them out this week.

Last Wednesday was our Anniversary and Awards Banquet at Arizona Broadway Theatre.  The dinner was excellent and ABT always makes sure our events are special – a big thank you to them.  Here’s a list of the 2016 Award Winners:
Mayor’s Award
Potter’s House Apothecary-
City Manager’s Award-
Huntington University

There was fun entertainment and a special feature from David Sandoval whose family has a long history here in Peoria. David’s Aunt had the first woman owned business in Peoria (a beauty shop), shared family photos (his mother’s graduation picture from Peoria High School in 1936) and some great stories from his family’s Peoria past.

All in all, a very entertaining and successful evening – if you did not make it this year, you should plan on it for next year as we approach our 100th Anniversary in 2019.

This upcoming weekend is the 4th of July holiday.  With the temps so high in the Valley everyone and their brother is going to be headed up north.  Please be safe on the highways and if you’re leaving later in the day check for accidents on the roads you plan to take.  If you’ve ever been stuck on I-17 for 3 to 4 hours, I guarantee you knowing in advance would have been a big help.

Enjoy your weekend and be safe!

Summer Marketing Help Needed

I’m sad to say we are losing our Intern Kara Minton, she’s moving to Denver.  We wish her all the best and much success.

That means the Chamber could really use some help with our Marketing programs during the summer until we secure some new interns in the fall.

If you have a son, daughter or anyone you know that might want to volunteer a few hours each week to help with our marketing programs please have them contact Guy or Ashley at the office.

Guy  gerickson@peoriachamber.com or Ashley ascott@peoriachamber.com or call us at 623-979-3601.

 The Millennials Corner:
Millennial Managers: The Future of Management

by Nikkie Byers

There’s a number of reasons a manager can cause a bad work environment. Studies show people leave their current job because of their boss, not the job itself.  Here’s a look at what Millennials will be like as the head-honchos and you can make the determination if this will result in a healthy combination of work and free time or cause customer satisfaction surveys to keep plummeting.

In a big move to plan for Peoria's Innovation Economy, the Peoria City Council approved the acquisition of the former Country Diesel Rock Bar and Grill, in the City's P83 District. The property sat vacant for several months. The City intends to use the space as part of a large innovation campus planned for the area.
