February 2017

President's Corner

Hi Everyone!
I hope everyone had a great Valentine’s Day.  Just remember that it’s ok to show those sentiments to your loved ones more than once a year, especially if you’re a man wanting to stay out of the dog house. (Can you tell I’ve been married for 37 years?)

I’m sure you’ve heard by now to save March 28th on your calendar for Peoria Mayor Cathy Carlat’s State of the City Luncheon.  The event is at Arizona Broadway Theatre and begins at 11:30 am.  Tickets are $35 and sponsorships begin at $200 for a table of 4 with your company logo in the program, on the video screens during the luncheon and displayed on the State of the City page on the Chamber website for 6 months.  Click on the “Save the Date” Mayor’s photo and it will take you directly to all the information.  Mayor Carlat will fill you in on all the fantastic things our City has been doing for all of us.

If you’re a blues or jazz music lover the City of Peoria has several concert opportunities coming upFebruary 22nd at the Peoria Center for the Performing Arts features the John Hopkins Dixieland Jazz Band at 7:30pm.  For you Blues lovers, you can enjoy concerts on March 5th, 12th & 19th at three of our City Parks.  Check out the Chamber event calendar for the places and times of each concert.

If you haven’t been to our member, The Twisted Italian at 9940 W. Happy Valley Rd. recently you probably don’t know they have added a Sunday Brunch.  Rumor has it that their omelets are incredible.  I’m going to check it out myself this Sunday, maybe I’ll see you there.

If you love to play golf, we could use your help on the Golf Committee for our $10 Million Shootout at Trilogy Golf Club on Friday, May 12th.  It’s not much of a time commitment but you can really add to the success of our event by lending a hand.  Call me at the office if you’re interested.

Just a quick reminder about the Mixer next Wednesday, February 22nd at Slicks Garage from 5:00 to 7:00 pm.  Come over and join us and meet some new people.  It’s free and everyone is welcome, so bring a friend!  There will be great food, drink specials and some terrific prizes.  If you’d like to give a prize from your business with a chance to address the group, call our office and we will get you lined up.

The Millennials Corner

28th Edition of
The Millennials Corner:

Learning How to Cope in Difficult Work Environments
By Emma Wolff

You turn sixteen and hear the sickening words, “It’s time to get a job.” Entering the workforce is an entirely new experience and with that comes much to learn. Some jobs are great - others are horrible, but chances are you will have both good and bad days no matter where you are employed.

More than likely your first job will be in the service industry. These first few fast food type jobs are relatively simple and look the same from place to place, company to company. However, as you get older and into more professional occupations, there may be some problematic situations that arise in the workplace. Dealing with conflict seems to be a common struggle among millennials. In order to succeed in the workplace, there are three areas where you must learn to cope with conflict.

Peoria Ambulance Service

Peoria Fire-Medical Launches Ambulance Service

Peoria Fire-Medical took a major step forward in enhancing high-quality emergency medical care for Peoria residents by launching its own ambulance service. Peoria ambulances will work in cooperation with private ambulance services to provide emergency medical transportation. Initially, one ambulance will be operating out of fire station 193, located at 83rd Avenue south of Thunderbird Road. In the coming weeks, Peoria will add an additional ambulance out of fire station 195, located on Lake Pleasant north of Deer Valley Road. The ultimate goal is to provide a stable and sustainable emergency transportation system
for our Peoria residents.
