The West Valley is home to Luke Air Force Base which is located adjacent to the cities of Glendale, Peoria, Surprise, El Mirage and Goodyear. The base itself is home to the 56th Fighter Wing, the largest fighter wing in the Air Force, which trains airmen on the F-16 and F-35 jet fighters. Base personnel number 5,500 military and civilian employees. In addition, there are 6,700 family members and 65,000 retirees connected to the base.

 One way we show that support is through community outreach to the base by supplying ‘Luke Bags” each month at the Wing Orientation briefing. Luke Bags welcome newly assigned base personnel and contain information on housing, schools, shopping, recreation, and Arizona desert living, the latter being new to many of them. The Luke Bags are well received and explain to the newcomers how much we appreciate their service to the Nation. 

As a chamber member, we encourage you to contribute items and information regarding how your business can support the Luke families to the bags. Volunteers from our Military Affairs Committee pick up the Luke Bags from the Chamber and take them to the base on the 15th of each month.  Please bring your items to us at the Chamber by end of day on the 14th.
