Hometown Heroes Veteran's Day Open House - 11.11.19

The Peoria Chamber of Commerce Military Affairs Committee (MAC) is proud to host a Veterans Day event to honor and thank our Hometown Heroes! This will be our first annual event and we are happy to partner with the Arrowhead Valley Retirement Resort in their beautiful facility that includes a luxury community movie theater. This open house will feature two military themed movies, Veteran support sponsors, and “Blessing Bags” for each guest. These bags can be given to anyone less fortunate and it’s our way of giving back.

The goal of this day is to bring together Peoria and west side Veterans and their families to thank them and provide a space to network and break bread. There is no cost to the Veteran but we will be asking for a small payment from guests to help offset our costs. This will cover a BBQ dinner and other entertainment.

Meet Your Members - Gabe Rivas, The Links Neighborhood Grill

My name is Gabriel Rivas and I am the proud owner of The Links Neighborhood Grill in Westbrook Village on the Vistas Golf Course in Peoria. I have been in the restaurant business since 1997 when my parents took over a small café in Sun City, Arizona. As a family, we grew to 3 locations within 8 years.  In 2010, I founded The Links Neighborhood Grill and started with a core group of 7 employees and we now employ 16 employees during our peak season. We are open 7 days of the week and serve breakfast, lunch & dinner. We have a beautiful glass-enclosed banquet room with a connecting outdoor patio that overlooks the Vistas Golf Course which has been great for bridal showers, anniversary parties, graduation parties and just about any other special event. We have recently expanded our catering to food trailers. We have a fully self- sufficient food trailer with a pizza oven that we serve fresh, made-to-order pizzas at festivals, farmers markets, corporate parties, etc and we also have a smoker where we smoke ribs, chicken & pork that we will use at neighborhood block parties, outdoor events & community events. We also support our local schools and churches with our food trailers and have been a part of several school functions in the West Valley along with a couple church functions in our area and have helped in fund-raising events. Personally, I am past President of Northwest Valley Lions Club, served on the Board of IGYB Peoria High Wrestling Boosters Club, served on the Surprise Tourism/Advisory Board, on the Board of Chance Shelter of Surprise and I’m on the Ambassador Committee for the Peoria Chamber.

I strongly believe in giving back to the community and the surrounding areas that have supported me and my business throughout the years. My mission is to be able to provide a great quality meal at an affordable price and to be able to support our local non-profit organizations
as much as possible.

Quarterly Luncheon - Representative Kevin Payne Recap

A big thank you to Centennial High School (CoyOTES) for hosting our Quarterly Luncheon. Representative Kevin Payne provided great information regarding some of the initiatives he is proposing based on his first hand experiences as a small business owner with a Food Truck.  He also provided updates on some of the other legislation that affects our communities from occupational licensing to healthcare.

In addition, with our efforts to advocate for our member businesses, we opened conversation regarding some concerns brought to us by our members regarding the restrictive and costly process when seeking to change or upgrade signage. Representative Payne as well as another state representative committed to research the processes.
